Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 271

The very thing I dreaded most still happened!

Camila Davis didn’t have time to watch the emotional drama unfolding between the other two. She turned sharply to the police officers standing by and said, “Officer, Sandra Taylor has stolen trade secrets and used unauthorized pharmaceuticals. That’s on her, not us. The Smith Group has completely overhauled the formula for anything questionable—our products are safe and improved.”

She gestured at Mr. Reed, who was still recovering on the couch. “The medication I used just now to help Mr. Reed was our newly improved treatment. Every one of our products goes through strict FDA-level scrutiny before it hits the market.”

The officer nodded. “We’ll be taking her in for questioning. As for the business and drug matters, we’ll contact the appropriate agencies to assist with the investigation.”

A stern woman from the regulatory board piped up, “We’ll also be looking into any potential violations by The Smith Group. That’s enough for today.”

“Thank you, everyone,” Camila said quickly, relieved.

The group of officials began to file out. As she was led away in handcuffs, Sandra Taylor kept struggling, calling out to Jordan Smith, “Jordan, please! You have to believe me! I didn’t do this—”

But Jordan Smith’s face was cold and unmoved.

With the authorities gone, a heavy silence fell over the Reed household.

Jordan turned to Camila, his eyes dark with frustration. “Are you satisfied now?”

Camila arched a brow, a chilly smile on her lips. “You think this is over? The Smith Group will be hearing from our lawyers. I intend to press charges for Sandra Taylor’s theft. This isn’t going away.”

Jordan’s expression darkened further, but he said nothing. He just turned on his heel and left.

As the door clicked shut, Camila let out a slow breath and finally looked at the Reed family. “Thank you all for backing me up just now.”

Earlier, when things got tense, the three Reeds had subtly helped her out—especially Shirley Reed, whose sharp words had pushed Sandra Taylor right to the edge.

“Wait, is this… right?” she stammered.

Gary grinned sheepishly. “Dennis said you charge five hundred an hour, and you’ve been here three hours.”

Camila was speechless. She had a sneaking suspicion Dennis Williams was trying to make up for something—and maybe send a message while he was at it.

Apparently sensing her hesitation, Mr. Reed, the patriarch, spoke up kindly. “Please accept it, Ms. Davis. You earned this. And I apologize for how my family treated you earlier. Dennis clearly holds you in high regard—these two, though, didn’t realize what a blessing it was to have you here. When I’m fully recovered, I’ll make sure everyone hears about the Smith Group’s miracle medicine!”

Camila felt a strange mix of emotions. She hadn’t expected Dennis to go out of his way for her.

And then, thinking back to the overly cooperative regulatory official just now, she wondered… Had Dennis pulled a few strings there too?
