Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 272

Maybe it really was possible!

Wanting to be sure, Camila Davis didn’t hang around at the Reed family’s place for long.

The moment she stepped outside, she pulled out her phone and called Dennis Williams.

His voice, smooth and warm with that mellow baritone, came through like a cool stream on a hot day. “Ms. Davis.”

Her heart skipped a beat. She wasted no time. “Mr. Williams, it’s done. Just like I planned, Sandra Taylor walked right into the trap. She slipped up and confessed to stealing the data—cops have already taken her in.”

Dennis didn’t sound surprised at all. He actually chuckled, “Is that so? Well, congratulations. That’s quite the comeback, and you exposed her for who she really is.”

Camila’s words held a hidden meaning. “Honestly, it all went so smoothly because the FDA folks who came to investigate were super cooperative, and the Reeds helped out—whether they meant to or not. I’m guessing I have you to thank for that?”

Dennis paused for a couple seconds, then gave a soft laugh. “Just a small favor. Nothing worth losing sleep over.”

So it really was him!

Camila felt her chest tighten with emotion.

For years, she’d fought for everything with her own two hands. Even when she’d been married to someone as high up as Jordan Smith, she’d never really benefited from his status.

But tonight, after just a casual chat, Dennis Williams remembered her words and pulled strings to help her out—without a second thought.

How could she not be moved?

“Honestly, I feel like I owe you more and more favors. This isn’t something I can just pay back with a dinner of burgers and fries.”

She had no problem taking the Reed family’s money. But her gratitude to Dennis Williams went way beyond that.

A simple thank-you didn’t seem nearly enough. She’d have to pick out a real gift for him, something special, when she got back to Cabinda.

With her mind made up, Camila kept the rest of the conversation light, then hung up after saying goodbye.

On her way home, she called Walter Wilson to fill him in about Sandra Taylor.

Walter was floored: while the Smith Group was still fumbling around for the mole, Camila had already outplayed Sandra and brought her down.

He laughed, a mischievous, almost roguish laugh. “Don’t worry. Now that she’s down for the count, I won’t go easy on her. She’ll pay for this—big time! And as for the Smith Group, I’ll make sure they bleed a little too.”

Camila had always trusted Walter’s knack for turning the tables, so she just grinned. “Alright then, Mr. Wilson. Can’t wait to see you work your magic!”
