Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 422

He really couldn’t help but feel sorry for Mr. Adams and his son.

Aaron hesitated, then asked, “So… what do we do now? Should we tell Mr. Adams about this?”

Just the thought of Mr. Adams finding out the truth made Aaron’s stomach twist—he honestly didn’t want to imagine how the guy would react.

Dennis Williams’s eyes grew cold. He told Aaron, “Keep digging into what happened with Samantha’s death. We know there’s more to the story, so we need hard proof. As for Larry Adams, I’ll find a way to break the news when the time’s right.”

He paused, his voice icy. “The Adams family owes him. They need to pay for what they did all those years ago.”

Aaron understood immediately. There was no way Mr. Williams was going to let his old friend get the short end of the stick.

“I’ll get right on it!” Aaron replied, nodding quickly. He hurried out of the office.

The next day—Monday.

After finishing her toast and coffee, Camila Davis dropped Lillian off at school.

Lillian seemed just like any other kid, but deep down, Camila still worried. Her little girl hadn’t been herself lately, and things felt unpredictable. So, after walking Lillian to her classroom, Camila pulled Larry Adams aside to fill him in.

“She had a bit of a relapse a few days ago,” Camila explained. “I’m not sure what might happen next, so I’d really appreciate it if you could keep an extra close eye on her. If you notice anything odd, please call me right away.”

She still felt uneasy leaving Lillian, but Dennis Williams had told her before that the kid needed to get out and be around other children. Keeping her cooped up at home would only make things worse.

Camila had wavered all morning, but in the end, she brought Lillian to school.

As for the whole “Lillian calling Dennis ‘Dad’” thing… Camila just couldn’t bring herself to mention it. Way too awkward.

Larry Adams understood, and reassured her, “Don’t worry, Ms. Davis. I’ll keep an eye on Lillian.”

After Camila left, Larry’s easygoing smile faded a little. Thinking of Lillian—and wanting to help guide her through her struggles—he didn’t hesitate long before calling his old friend for advice.

“You’re the expert—how come the kid’s not getting better? If anything, her issues are flaring up again. That doesn’t make sense!”

On the other end, Dennis Williams replied coolly, “I didn’t expect to run into her father at the art show. It triggered her, and now there’s been a bit of emotional transference.”

Larry frowned, not quite following. “Emotional transference? What’s that supposed to mean?”
