Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 449

After Cynthia Lee left, Dennis Williams and Larry Adams didn’t stick around for much longer either. The three of them slipped out of the restaurant, none the wiser that they’d been watched the entire time.

Over by the window, Sandra Taylor and her parents sat quietly, eyes fixed on the street outside. They’d witnessed every second of the little drama that had played out in the dining room—and Sandra had even snapped a few photos on her phone.

Now, Sandra was leaning in, voice urgent as she questioned her father. “Dad, you just said that woman’s the Cabinda Ms. Lee. Are you sure?”

Mr. Taylor nodded gravely. “I’m positive. Last year, when Mason Smith and I went to Cabinda to talk business, we attended a cocktail party together. She was there. I’m pretty sure I even asked for her business card—I thought I’d introduce you two someday, maybe help you make a connection.”

He sighed. “But I lost the card, clumsy me… Not that it matters now.”

Not that it would have helped, anyway. The Taylor family wasn’t what it used to be. They’d long since lost their place among the city’s elite.

Mr. Taylor cleared his throat and turned to his daughter. “You said that man with her—the one who looks like he walked off the cover of GQ—is Lillian’s therapist?”

Sandra nodded, her eyes narrowing ever so slightly, deep in thought. “That’s right.”

Mrs. Taylor couldn’t help herself anymore. “Why on earth would a therapist be having dinner with the Lee family’s heiress? Doesn’t that seem odd?”

Sandra chewed her lip, unable to make sense of it either. Honestly, she didn’t think much of the guy. How impressive could Camila Davis’s circle really be? The therapist probably just had a good-looking face, nothing more.

Even if people from the medical association or the health department treated him a little differently, Sandra hadn’t paid much attention. After all, how many real big shots are there in this world? Maybe he was just using his job to cozy up to high society. The Lee family’s name was exactly the kind people loved to chase after.

The more she thought about it, the more excited Sandra became. So what if Camila Davis and her so-called therapist were close? Who could possibly compete with Jordan Smith’s family background? And it’s not like this therapist wasn’t tangled up with Ms. Lee now, too.

Ms. Lee and Camila Davis—one was sky-high, the other barely scraping the ground. There was no comparison.

Sandra grinned, a sly, almost mean-spirited smile. She was going to make sure Camila Davis saw exactly where she stood in the pecking order.

That night, Camila Davis was finally feeling a little better. She was busy sorting through some research notes for her mentor when her phone buzzed with a new message.

She opened it—and froze. Attached were a few photos. The subject was unmistakable: Dennis Williams. Even though the shots were obviously taken in secret, his tall and commanding presence was impossible to miss.
