Walter Wilson frowned slightly at Aiden’s words. “Alright, let’s hear it,” he said.
Aiden nodded and quickly launched into his report. “I traced Ms. Davis’s connection to the guy in question and tried to dig deeper. Turns out, Mr. Williams’s records are locked down tight—protected by the authorities. Not much to go on there.
But I did find out he’s from Cabinda. So, I looked into all the major families in Cabinda, the big players, but none of them had the last name Williams. At least, not among the old money. But there is a newer family in the game.
They’re a rising star, built their fortune in defense contracting—lots of business with the military. You might’ve heard of their company: NextGen Technologies. Used to be just another small tech firm back in Cabinda, nothing special. The only thing that put them on the map was their heiress, Elena Williams. She married into the Collins family—yeah, those Collins, the top dogs in Cabinda. Her husband was Gabriel Collins.
But then, out of nowhere, Elena died just a few years after joining the family.
She had a son, but there’s barely any info on him—he’s kept out of the public eye. Local rumors say he cut ties with the Collins clan and switched back to his mother’s last name, Williams…”
Aiden paused there, letting it all sink in.
Walter ran through the information in his head, piecing it together. “So, you’re saying this Dennis Williams is Elena Williams’s son with Gabriel Collins?”
Aiden shrugged. “Just a theory. But it fits. The current head of NextGen Technologies—this Mr. Williams—keeps a low profile, never shows up at public events. And NextGen only really blew up in the defense sector after Elena passed away. They didn’t get much out of the Collins family while she was alive, but after she was gone, the Smith Group—her family—shot straight to the top.
Also, Dennis Williams’s military ties and matching last name… I mean, what are the odds?”
Walter didn’t say anything, but the pieces fit too well. He’d suspected from the start that Dennis Williams was far from ordinary. Few people carried themselves with that kind of presence.
Dennis Williams. Mr. Williams. NextGen Technologies. Aiden’s research was likely spot on.
Walter rubbed his temples and let out a deep breath. This Dennis Williams was going to be a tough rival. Clearly, he wasn’t the only one who saw something special in Camila Davis. Turns out, even hidden gems eventually catch other people’s eyes.
Pushing aside his thoughts, Walter told Aiden to keep working on the recruitment drive and, in the meantime, to get in touch with Mr. Mark about the situation.
Since Mr. Morris had arrived in Harrisburg, he’d been incredibly busy. Camila thought he was just out taking strolls or enjoying retirement, but then Patrick mentioned that Mr. Morris was attending meetings every day. What kind of meetings would keep her old mentor so occupied?
She had a hunch, but needed confirmation.
After work that day, she picked up little Lillian and headed straight to Mr. Morris’s place. Patrick was all smiles, having whipped up a feast—including a few sweet treats for the youngest dinner guest.
As they finished off a slice of apple pie, Camila finally asked her mentor about all those meetings.
Mr. Morris dabbed at his mouth with a napkin and replied, “So you’ve caught wind of it, huh? It’s true—the folks in Cabinda want me on board. This plan was in motion even before I moved to Harrisburg. There’ve been back-to-back meetings ever since.
They’re building an R&D team, and the requirements are sky-high. Everyone they’re recruiting has decades of professional experience.”
