Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 550

She kept thinking about what Dennis Williams had said—that they needed to set up another time to talk, just the two of them.

But when would that be, exactly?

It weighed on her mind the whole time. She just couldn’t let it go.

But for two whole days, nothing. Not a single word from the man.

Then, finally, on the third evening—

Camila Davis was picking up Lillian after school when she ran into Larry Adams.

Larry looked nothing like the hungover mess he’d been at the bar a few nights before. He was his usual cheerful self, and he greeted Camila with a wide grin. “Ms. Davis, how about grabbing dinner tonight? Bring Ms. Brown along too.”

He paused, his smile softening. “I heard about the other night at O’Malley’s from Dennis. I really owe you both a thank you.”

Camila waved him off with a chuckle. “Oh, it was nothing. But seriously, Mr. Adams, don’t bottle things up. Drinking yourself under the table isn’t the best plan. If you ever need a hand, just ask. We’re here for you.”

Larry chuckled. “Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind. But tonight, dinner’s on me. Think of it as my way of saying goodbye.”

Camila blinked. “Goodbye? Where are you headed, Mr. Adams?”

Larry looked her right in the eye and said, “I’ve resigned from the school. As soon as I wrap things up here, I’m heading back to Cabinda with Dennis.”

He shrugged good-naturedly. “We’ve been friends, at least for a little while. Let’s have a proper send-off, yeah? I already booked us a table.”

Camila felt her mind go blank for a second. She hadn’t expected Mr. Adams to leave, too.

But since he put it that way, she couldn’t say no. “Alright, count me in. I’ll text Sarah and let her know.”

“Great!” Larry grinned. “See you at the restaurant.”

Camila nodded, then realized he hadn’t told her which one. She was just about to ask when Lillian, nestled in her arms, started waving excitedly.

“Daddy!” the little girl squealed.

Camila looked up and saw a car pulling up to the curb. Dennis Williams stepped out, his long frame unfolding from the driver’s seat.

He heard Lillian’s voice and smiled, soft and tender. “Lillian.”

He barely got the word out before Lillian wriggled free from Camila’s arms and dashed toward him. Dennis caught her easily as she launched herself into his arms.

“Did you miss me?” he asked, holding her tight.
