Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 556

玄关处突然传来一阵动静。

Camila Davis’s thoughts were interrupted. She turned her head and saw Susan supporting Sarah Brown as they walked in.

Behind them, Aaron was practically dragging Larry Adams, both guys looking absolutely wiped out.

Larry was clutching his lower back, wincing in pain.

Camila’s eyes widened at the sight. She hurried over and asked, “What on earth happened to you guys?”

Sarah stayed silent, clearly not in the mood to talk.

Larry groaned, “Ms. Davis, please, check my back. I think I threw it out. I might actually need a doctor...”

At the sound of his voice, Sarah immediately exploded, “Oh, give me a break! I barely touched you!”

Camila looked at them, skeptical and confused, then turned to Susan for answers.

Susan looked just as awkward, not knowing how to explain.

Finally, Aaron spoke up, keeping it short and to the point: “Nothing crazy happened. Last night, after Mr. Adams walked Ms. Brown home, somehow they ended up drinking more after they got inside. Next thing you know, they both passed out—on the same bed.”

Camila’s eyes nearly popped out of her head.

The same bed? Did something…?

Aaron must’ve caught her look, because he quickly added, “Nothing happened, I swear! When we went to wake them up, they both opened their eyes at the same time, totally freaked out, and instinctively kicked each other. Both of them fell off the bed. That’s when Mr. Adams hurt his back…”

Camila’s face twisted into a look of disbelief mixed with amusement.

Dennis Williams shot Larry a complicated look and asked, “This is how you take care of people?”

“Innocent, Dennis! I swear!” Larry pleaded, looking absolutely pitiful. “You all saw her last night, right? She was crawling through the bushes out front, saying she was looking for her cat. I finally got her inside, but she got mad and demanded I find her cat or else. Where was I supposed to find a cat at two in the morning? So, I gave her a stuffed kitten from the couch and told her it was her cat. She hugged it and started bawling, insisting the ‘cat’ was dead and wanted to hold a funeral—with whiskey shots, no less!”

Larry grew even more indignant, “And that’s not all! She started blaming me for the cat’s ‘death,’ said I had to drink as punishment. If I didn’t, she’d start wailing at the top of her lungs. I just didn’t want the neighbors to call the cops! So yeah, I drank with her…”

Dennis smirked. “And let me guess, you got just as hammered?”

Larry rubbed his nose, not denying it. “Come on. I can hold my liquor, but not *that* much.”
