Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 573

Walter Wilson looked a little hesitant.

But when he saw the determined look in Camila Davis’s eyes, he had no choice but to pull Aiden back as well.

Camila glared coldly at Jordan Smith and Barbara Jones. “Let me make this clear: if Lillian so much as loses a single hair, I won’t let this go. You’ll answer to me.”

With that, she turned on her heel and walked away, Walter trailing after her.

Inside the elevator, Camila glanced over at Walter with concern. “Hey, you okay? Did they hurt you?”

Walter couldn’t help but feel a bit warm inside at the worry in her voice. He shook his head with a smile. “I’m fine. Those guys? Please. It’ll take more than that to mess me up.”

“Good.” Camila nodded, finally allowing herself to relax.

As the elevator doors slid shut, Jordan Smith stood frozen in the hallway, watching her leave without so much as a backward glance. His face twisted in a way it never had before.

How could Camila Davis stay so calm after seeing him about to get engaged to someone else? Wasn’t she supposed to be upset?

He didn’t want to believe it—couldn’t. Was she really just here for Lillian and nothing else?

Thinking of his daughter, Jordan turned to Barbara Jones. “Where’s Lillian now?”

Barbara, still riding high after Camila’s exit, answered without thinking, “She’s in her room.”

“I’m going to check on her,” Jordan said, already making his way down the hall.

As he passed Sandra Taylor’s lounge, he suddenly stopped, frowning. There’d been quite a commotion outside, but Sandra hadn’t come out—not even to peek.

Normally, he wouldn’t have cared, but she was pregnant, after all. He didn’t want her to be startled or upset.

He knocked gently. “Sandra?”

No answer. His frown deepened, so he reached for the handle, intending to go in.

Locked.

Inside, Sandra Taylor was pinned against the wall by Alexander. The sudden sound of Jordan’s voice outside made her entire body tense up.

She glared fiercely at Alexander, lowering her voice to a desperate whisper. “Are you insane? I’m about to marry into the Smith family—if you blow this for me now, every bit of effort I’ve put in will go up in smoke! Don’t you want your money?”

Alexander just smirked, nibbling her ear and whispering, “Relax. I’m not stupid enough to throw away my shot at a fortune. But come on, after tonight you’ll be Mrs. Smith. It won’t be so easy to get you alone after that. Let me savor this while I can.”

“Okay,” Jordan said, and hung up.

Sandra slammed a fist into Alexander’s shoulder. “Are you trying to get us both killed?”

He just laughed. “He didn’t suspect a thing. Besides, don’t tell me you didn’t enjoy it.”

Sandra ignored that, rolling her eyes. “Just hurry up, will you?”

He grinned, “Anything for the future Mrs. Smith...”

Downstairs in the hotel lobby, Camila and Walter had arrived at the lounge outside the banquet hall.

Walter glanced at her, hesitating. “Are you sure about this? Just walking out like that?”

Truth was, Camila wasn’t sure at all. She had no idea what Dennis Williams had planned, and leaving the party like this left her uneasy.

“I’m going to step out and make a call. Just to be sure,” she said, pulling out her phone to dial Dennis.
