Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 579

Sandra Taylor’s reaction didn’t go unnoticed by Camila Davis and the others.

If this wasn’t the look of a guilty conscience, then what was?

Sandra’s eyes darted around the room. She didn’t see Jordan Smith anywhere, but the suspicion on her face refused to fade.

Maybe she was just being paranoid. Maybe these people didn’t know anything at all. That thing they’d just said—probably just a coincidence!

Trying to steady herself, Sandra took a breath and turned back to the group. Camila and Walter Wilson looked as calm as ever.

Sarah Brown, on the other hand, glared at Sandra and snapped, “Listen, Sandra, if it comes to a war of words, you’ll never beat me. I’m warning you—do us all a favor and get lost. I’m sick of your fake little act, and honestly, being forced to watch you play ‘gracious guest’ today makes me want to puke.”

Walter, who had always been the handsome, wealthy guy—someone who could rival even Jordan Smith—chimed in, “Seriously, it’s nauseating. With a face that fake and ugly, I can only imagine what kind of monster you’re raising. No wonder your kid’s so cruel already. I can’t wait to see Jordan’s face when he finds out the truth.”

That one stung. Sandra felt humiliated. Why did men like Walter—and the one everyone in town gossiped about—always circle around Camila? Camila, the woman Jordan’s family had thrown away like an old pair of shoes, was suddenly a prize, while she, Sandra, was getting insulted to her face.

The anger boiled over before she could stop it. Her voice dropped to a venomous whisper, her expression twisted. “Yeah, maybe my methods aren’t pretty, but in the end, I won, didn’t I? I’m the one who’s Mrs. Smith now. Albert—the Smiths’ son—is mine. Sure, he’s not related to them by blood, but he’ll inherit just the same. And your precious little idiot? Ha! The Smiths tossed her out like yesterday’s leftovers.”

“When I got back to the States, did you really think I was trying to help her with that therapist? Please. That was just me trying to crush her spirit, and it worked even better than I thought. I made her autism worse in no time. Bet you lost your mind back then, huh, Camila? Bet you never realized just how happy it made me.”

Sandra sounded almost deranged, like she’d finally lost her grip.

She wanted to rip away Camila’s calm mask—broadcasting every ugly thing she’d done, right to her face.
