Camila Davis was completely stunned.
She hadn’t even touched Sandra Taylor.
It was Sandra who grabbed Camila’s hand and slapped her own face with it.
Now, Sandra lay sprawled dramatically on the floor, and if she could, she’d have given herself a round of applause for her performance. She shot Camila a smug, challenging look—this woman was still trying to keep her cool? Well, not for long. Today, Sandra was determined to push Camila’s buttons until everyone in the room turned against her, until she was utterly disgraced.
And of course, Sandra knew she was pregnant. That was exactly why her act would have the maximum effect. When she “fell,” she’d even made sure to avoid landing on her stomach—her baby would be just fine.
Right on cue, little Daniel started bawling his eyes out, his sobs echoing through the hall. “Mommy! Are you okay? Does it hurt? Camila, how could you hit my mom? She’s got my little brother Lillian in her tummy! Why are you so mean? If you’re mad, just hit me instead! Don’t hurt my mom or her baby…”
The sudden commotion drew everyone’s attention. Heads turned, and the entire Smith family was immediately on high alert.
Jordan Smith’s face drained of color as he rushed over, helping Sandra sit up. His voice was thick with concern. “Sandra! Are you alright? What happened?”
Barbara Jones’s voice rose an octave, panic in every word. “What is going on here?!”
The guests were just as curious, gathering in a tight circle. Daniel ran to Barbara, his cheeks wet with tears, crying out, “Grandma! You have to help my mom! She came to thank Camila for coming to Dad’s engagement party, but Camila got mad and tried to hurt her baby! She hit my mom and made her fall down!”
“What?!” Barbara’s face twisted with rage. She glared daggers at Camila. “Camila Davis, how could you be so cruel? Sandra’s pregnant, and you tried to hurt her? Are you insane? You think you can harm a Smith family child and get away with it?!”
The guests were shocked into silence before quickly breaking into a low buzz of gossip.
“Wait, isn’t that Mr. Smith’s ex-wife?”
“What’s she even doing here at the engagement party?”
“Wasn’t their divorce a complete disaster? It was all over the news. I never thought she’d show her face here.”
