Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 591

Camila Davis felt her heart skip a beat at his words, her eyes flickering with emotion.

After wrestling with herself for a few seconds, she finally mustered the courage to look up at him and asked, “Come on, just tell me—what is it?”

The man’s gaze was deep, unreadable. Instead of giving her the answer she so desperately wanted, he just smiled slightly and said, “You’ll find out soon enough. Give it time.”

He was always like this—confident, a little possessive. He didn’t just want her company; he wanted all of her—heart, soul, everything.

But some things, he thought, were better left unsaid for now. After all, they’d only just arrived in Cabinda. He didn’t want to scare her off before things had even begun.

Even without him spelling it out, Camila could sense what he meant from the way he looked at her. Her cheeks flushed, and she dropped her gaze, not daring to meet his eyes or press further. She was afraid if she asked again, she’d give herself away.

They stood together in a comfortable silence, the air between them thick with unspoken feelings.

Needing a distraction, Camila finally broke the silence, “So, are you heading back to work after this?”

“Yeah,” Dennis replied, not bothering to hide it. “I’ve got a late video call.”

She glanced at the clock, surprised. “This late? Are you always this busy?”

There was genuine concern in her voice, even if she tried to play it off as casual.

Dennis smiled, a little sheepishly. “It’s not usually this bad. But lately, things have been rough for Larry. He could use some backup, so I’ve been helping out. It’s a tricky situation, but once it’s over, things should settle down.”

Hearing Larry Adams’s name, Camila couldn’t help but ask, “How’s Mr. Adams holding up?”

She still didn’t know the full story behind Larry’s hasty departure from Harrisburg, though she’d heard bits and pieces from Sarah Brown. The rumor mill in Cabinda was working overtime: Larry, once the carefree black sheep of The Adams Family, had suddenly agreed to come home and take over the family business. The whole town was stunned.

What really shocked everyone was that Larry hadn’t just come back—he’d landed straight into a top job at The Adams Group. Naturally, plenty of folks inside the company weren’t too happy about it. But Dennis had shown up on Larry’s first day, making it clear he had his back. With Dennis’s support, even the most disgruntled employees had to keep their complaints to themselves, at least in public.

But everyone knew that only went so far. Larry’s days at The Adams Group weren’t smooth sailing. People found ways, big and small, to make things difficult for him. Camila could easily imagine the kind of obstacles Larry was facing.
