While Camila Davis was still lost in thought, Dennis Williams’ warm, amused voice snapped her back to reality. “Morning. You finally awake?”
His deep, smooth tone was enough to make anyone’s heart skip a beat.
Camila blinked, a little embarrassed to be caught daydreaming. She quickly averted her gaze. “I think I, uh… accidentally fell asleep last night.”
Dennis’s lips curled into a playful grin. “That’s on me. I passed out as soon as my head hit the pillow. Should’ve seen you off.”
Camila just shrugged it off, her main concern elsewhere. “Did you sleep okay?”
She’d dozed off herself and hadn’t even noticed.
Dennis looked genuinely refreshed for once, the exhaustion from the day before all but gone. “Best night I’ve had in weeks, honestly. Those essential oils and your lavender candle did wonders.”
Relieved, Camila glanced up at him again and saw he really did look better—no shadows under his eyes, no signs of fatigue.
She slid out of bed and straightened the covers, then told him, “You get yourself together. I need to freshen up too—Susan’s probably got breakfast ready downstairs.”
As she headed for the door, Dennis reached out and gently pulled her back.
“What’s up?” she asked, puzzled.
Dennis set down his towel, those sharp blue eyes softening as he leaned in.
Before Camila could react, he pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead.
His voice was low, teasing. “You forgot to say good morning.”
Camila’s cheeks turned bright red. She clapped a hand over her forehead and hurriedly took two steps back. “Hey! I haven’t even washed my face!”
Dennis chuckled, clearly in a great mood. “Doesn’t bother me. Go on, I’ll finish drying my hair.”
“Oh… okay…”
Camila was so enchanted by his smile that she all but floated out of the room, still a little dazed.
Back in her own bedroom, she realized something: Dennis Williams, who used to be so cool and reserved, had become surprisingly sweet and attentive now that they were… whatever they were.
And honestly? This new version of him was impossible to resist.
A simple good morning kiss, and her heart was pounding like crazy. Her mind even wandered back to last night, to the memory of tangled limbs and whispered words.
If this kept up, she was doomed. No way she’d be able to resist him for long.
Her face was burning just thinking about it. She splashed her face with cold water and took a few deep breaths before she finally calmed down.
Twenty minutes later, Camila headed downstairs, freshly showered. She found Dennis already up, chatting with Lillian in the backyard.
