Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 624

If she could just keep her cool, do nothing, everything would be fine.

But if she lost control—well, just look at what happened to Jonathan Allen. That’s the kind of ending waiting for her.

But Camila Davis and Dennis Williams? They had no clue about any of that.

After they tumbled out of their little whirlwind of passion, they just went back to chatting about Dennis’s recent business trip.

“I thought you said you’d be gone for at least three days?” Camila asked, raising an eyebrow as she curled up beside him on the plush couch. “It hasn’t even been three, and here you are. Let me guess—you pulled another all-nighter, didn’t you?”

She could practically picture him hunched over his laptop in some generic hotel room, pizza box on the nightstand, cranking out work like his life depended on it.

“Why do you push yourself like this? Before you left, even Lillian told you to take care of yourself and get some sleep,” she scolded, her tone half-mocking, half-genuine worry. “Of course, you just turned around and forgot all about it.”

Dennis listened, a lazy smile tugging at his lips. He didn’t seem to mind her fussing at all; in fact, he looked like he enjoyed it.

Aaron, driving in the front seat, heard it too. He couldn’t help but think, Finally. Someone’s actually keeping Mr. Williams in check.

Camila kept it up all the way home. By the time they pulled up outside the suburban villa, Dennis reached over and took her hand, looking totally sheepish. “Alright, alright, I admit it. You caught me. Forgive me just this once? I promise, next time I’ll behave.”

And with that, he pressed a quick kiss to her knuckles.

Camila’s cheeks went pink in an instant. She was just trying to lecture him—not get kissed again!

Dennis caught her reaction and let out a soft chuckle, not pushing his luck. “Alright, it’s late. We’re home. Let’s go inside.”

She didn’t say another word, just bolted from the car. Dennis followed at his own pace, grinning as he watched her hurry ahead.

When they stepped inside, the house was quiet—Lillian had already gone to bed.

Dennis sighed, a little disappointed. “Guess the little munchkin went to sleep early tonight.”

Camila smiled, knowing how tight he was with Lillian. “No worries. You’ll see her in the morning. Did you eat yet? If you haven’t, I’ll whip something up. Go shower, I made sure your clothes are clean and in the closet.”

Dennis raised an eyebrow. “Letting me stay the night, huh?”

Camila avoided his gaze, muttering, “It’s not like it’s the first time.”

He let out a low laugh. “Alright, I’ll go freshen up.”

Truth was, he was exhausted from racing home. And since Camila was letting him stay, Dennis wasn’t about to argue. He headed upstairs to shower.
