Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 663

Camila Davis hurried off to change into a bathrobe.

She had to admit, Dennis Williams had really thought of everything. There were all sorts of things laid out for her—heck, he’d even left her a whole selection of robes to choose from, in different styles and colors.

By the time Camila reappeared, Dennis was nowhere in sight. She blinked in surprise, figuring he must’ve already headed out.

But as she made her way to the outdoor hot tub, she was caught completely off guard. There he was—Dennis, already soaking in the steaming water.

What is he doing here?

Camila was so shocked that she slipped on the wet stone. Before she could regain her balance, she toppled headfirst into the hot tub—

SPLASH.

Water flew everywhere, and panic shot through her chest as she instinctively flailed. But before she could really struggle, a strong arm wrapped around her waist and hoisted her up out of the water.

Dennis looked both startled and amused. “Jeez, Camila, you scared me! What happened?”

She coughed, sputtering, clinging to his chest for support. Water dripped from her hair and her borrowed robe. “I—I thought you left! I didn’t expect you to be sitting there.”

He patted her back gently, helping her catch her breath. “This tub’s big enough for a football team,” he said, half-laughing. “And after the day I’ve had, I figured I’d grab a little down time myself. You don’t mind sharing, do you?”

Camila wasn’t the jealous type. She shook her head, though her expression was a little wounded. “No, it’s fine. You totally have the right to relax…” She paused, then added, “But you could’ve at least warned me—you scared the life out of me!”

She nodded again, curiosity sparking. “Is this hot tub naturally spring-fed, or did you have it put in?”

He grinned. “It’s all natural. That’s why I bought this place, honestly. The view, the hot spring, the peace and quiet… City life’s great and all, but you need somewhere to actually unwind, you know?”

Camila couldn’t agree more. She shot him an approving look. “You have excellent taste, I have to say.”

Dennis’s smile widened. He reached over to a little tray at the edge of the tub, where he’d somehow managed to set out two shot glasses and a bottle of whiskey. She hadn’t even noticed him bring it.

He poured them each a small measure and handed her one. “Just a sip—don’t want to overdo it.”

Camila eyed the glass—just enough for a quick toast—and accepted it with a grateful grin.
