Thinking about all this, Cynthia Lee slowly started to calm down.
She took a deep breath and finally admitted, “Okay, I lost my cool.”
Nicholas Lee was pretty satisfied to see her reflect so quickly. He nodded, a little smile tugging at his lips.
He continued, “I had someone look into it. Turns out, back when Dennis was in Harrisburg, he was treating Camila Davis’s daughter. That’s why they saw each other so much.”
“Spending that much time together, well, it gives someone a leg up. Plus, it means they actually got to know each other. You can’t blame yourself for that—you were at a disadvantage from the start. There’s really no way to catch up right now.”
“That’s why I suggested you try to get closer to the Williams family.”
He paused, giving Cynthia a knowing look.
“They’re not going to accept a divorced woman into the family overnight. It’ll take time. And that’s exactly your advantage! Use it. Let them see how gracious, thoughtful, and poised you can be.”
With that, Nicholas fell quiet. He trusted his daughter’s intelligence—she’d know what to do.
Cynthia had already regained her composure. She weighed the pros and cons quickly and, after a few seconds, replied, “I get it. Thanks, Dad. I know how to work on my strengths now. But…”
She couldn’t quite shake her resentment. The thought of Camila Davis being with her man still burned inside her. What did Camila have that she didn’t? Cynthia was determined—one day, she’d make Camila see exactly where she stood.

Meanwhile, Camila Davis was still working late at the research center. It was almost 11 p.m., and she showed no signs of calling it quits.
Finally, Dennis Williams couldn’t take it anymore. He came over and said, “Look, I know you mean well, but this isn’t urgent. My granddad’s still in decent shape. We can take our time figuring out what’s best for him.”
“If you’re worried, I’ll keep an eye on him myself—make sure he gets some exercise and follows your advice. You don’t need to stress yourself out over this.”
Dennis wasn’t just saying it for Camila’s benefit—his grandfather’s doctor had recommended it before. The problem was, the old man was stubborn and set in his ways, and Dennis was usually out of town. But now that he was in Cabinda for a while, he could finally make sure his grandfather stayed active.
Camila felt a warm glow at his words. She cared about him, and he was returning the favor—sticking around late when he’d worked all day himself. She didn’t want to push him any further.
Camila nodded. “Alright. Let’s call it a night.”
He carried her all the way to the car. “If you’re tired, just lean on me for a bit.”
Camila shook her head, trying to sit up straight. “I’m fine. Really. I can handle it…”
Dennis didn’t argue. He let her have her way. But tired as she was, it wasn’t long before her body gave out. The second the car started moving, Camila sleepily leaned against his shoulder and drifted off.
Who knows how long she slept. When Camila finally woke up, someone was gently calling her name.
She opened her eyes to find herself in a strange room. Looking around, she realized she was in… a changing room? Not far away, there was a massive floor-to-ceiling window, and outside, a beautifully landscaped hot spring, steam rising into the night.
The sight was enchanting—warm and inviting.
Camila blinked in surprise. “Where… where are we?”
Dennis steadied her by the shoulders and smiled. “It’s the hot spring out back at Eagle’s Peak Estate. Last time you visited, I never showed you this place. I figured we could soak for a bit. It’ll help you relax after such a long day.”
Camila hadn’t expected him to bring her here in the middle of the night. But honestly, the idea of a hot spring sounded awfully tempting right now. She was exhausted, and the soothing water looked like pure heaven.
