Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 661

When she said that, Dennis Williams’ eyes darkened, the blue in them deepening.

In the end, he could only relent. “Alright,” he said, “if that’s what you want, I won’t stop you. But, there’s one thing you got wrong, Camila.”

Camila Davis looked at him, puzzled. “What did I get wrong?”

Dennis smiled, his eyes glinting with mischief, but his words were serious. “Nothing could ever wear down what we have. If anything, it’s only going to get better. I’m not going to let anything come between us, okay?”

His steady, confident voice filled her with a sense of comfort.

Of course, Camila trusted him. She nodded, her response soft but sure. “Yeah. I believe you.”

Dennis pulled her gently into his arms.

The two of them stood there, holding each other, just soaking up the warmth and tenderness of the moment.

Outside, people liked to whisper that she was divorced and not good enough for him. But Dennis always thought he’d found a hidden gem, overlooked by everyone else.

To him, Camila was someone to be treasured and fiercely protected.

But Camila never forgot her responsibilities. She still had work to finish.

After a while, they separated, and she went back to mixing her samples—her project was due soon.

Dennis hovered nearby. “Need a hand with anything?”

Camila shook her head. “No, this is one of those things best left to the experts.”

Dennis knew he’d be more in the way than anything else, so he didn’t insist.

But Camila smiled. “You can keep me company, though. It helps.”

That made Dennis smile, too. “Alright then. I’ll keep you company every night this week.”

“Sounds perfect.”

Having the person you love want to spend time with you—Camila couldn’t have asked for more.

The soft lamp light wrapped around them, their feelings quietly winding together.

Meanwhile, over at the Lee household, the mood was far less peaceful.

Cynthia Lee stormed into the living room, a scowl on her face.

Hazel was just as upset. “Exactly! The most eligible bachelor in all of Boston, and he’s running after a divorcee? There are dozens of lovely, respectable girls he could be with…”

Nicholas, ever the pragmatist, tried to keep things in perspective. “Is that all it takes to get you worked up? He gave someone a ride home. You’re letting that get to you?”

Cynthia shot him a hurt look. “Shouldn’t it bother me? He was so cold to me, Dad! It hurt.”

Nicholas’ tone sharpened. “You think that’s all? You think they just drive each other around? What if there’s more going on between them—things you don’t see? If you can’t handle this, how will you handle the rest?”

“Dad!” Cynthia’s face fell, the thought making her even angrier.

Nicholas was unrelenting, his voice stern. “I’m just saying, you missed your chance at the start. If you’re going to let jealousy ruin you now, you might as well give up. There’s no sense in dragging the family down with you.”

His blunt words hit Cynthia hard.

He was right. If she couldn’t even handle this, how was she supposed to win Dennis back?

A jealous, bitter woman was the last thing Dennis Williams would ever want.

If she couldn’t get her emotions under control, all she’d ever get from him was rejection.
