Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 744

Fortunately, Camila had Dennis looking out for her.

Walter Wilson’s eyes grew distant for a moment at those words, as if he was picturing Camila Davis standing side by side with that man again.

Larry Adams caught the look and tactfully changed the subject. Turning to Walter, he asked, “So, Mr. Wilson, how long will you be staying in Cabinda this time?”

Walter pulled himself from his thoughts, pressed his lips together, and replied, “About… two months, give or take.”

Two months? Larry was a little surprised. He wondered if Walter was here for Camila as well. If so, things were about to get complicated—especially since Camila and Dennis were already together.

Almost as if he’d read Larry’s mind, Walter added, with a reluctant edge to his voice, “N.Z. Teck’s new team is expanding. For a number of reasons, I can’t take up my post in Harrisburg just yet. The current project is at a critical stage and needs close supervision, so I’ve arranged for them to work out of The Wilson Group’s offices for now.”

His tone was stiff and businesslike.

Larry sized him up for a moment, then broke into a grin. Clearly, he’d been overthinking things. Walter struck him as straightforward and honorable—nothing like Jordan Smith. Besides, Dennis had met Walter before, and if Walter were the scheming type, Camila would never keep working with him.

Larry clapped Walter warmly on the shoulder. “Well, it’ll be good to have you here a while! Once the work’s done, you should take some time to enjoy the sights around Cabinda. We’ve crossed paths a few times back in Harrisburg, but never really had a chance to get to know each other. You’re Camila’s friend, and that makes you our friend too. As your host, I’ll make sure you’re well taken care of. And hey, we should grab dinner together whenever we can. Come on, my friend, let me toast to you!”

Larry had some work to take care of and excused himself early. Before leaving, he called out, “Let’s grab a drink together soon!”

“Absolutely. Take care—it’s getting late!” Sarah waved him off, watching his car disappear down the road before turning back to find Walter silent and withdrawn.

She couldn’t help but ask, “Are you staying this long because of Camila? Are you… still not over her?”

Walter felt as if everyone was obsessed with that question. There was nothing between him and Camila—never had been. Irritated, he lit a cigarette, taking a long, hard drag before blowing out a thick cloud of smoke.
