Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 747

After everyone had finished joking around, Eric Morris wore a relaxed smile and said, “My student isn’t any different from the rest of you. Like all the talented young people here, she has her own strengths.

Compared to you veterans, though, she still has a lot to learn, plenty of room for improvement…”

He didn’t sugarcoat things for his own apprentice, and went on to point out several areas where Camila Davis needed to do better.

“She just doesn’t have enough real-world experience yet. Some of her ideas are bold and creative, but for now, most of them are just theories that rarely survive in practice. Her failure rate is too high… She’s still a long way from the level of her seniors.

But she’s young. She’s got time, and a long road ahead.

There’s no need to defend her just because she’s your team leader.

The truth is, everyone in management knows exactly what Camila is capable of.”

He spoke plainly, matter-of-fact, his words easily brushing aside Harper Thompson’s earlier attempt at a backhanded compliment.

Camila Davis wasn’t upset by any of it. In fact, she agreed with her mentor’s assessment—she really did have those shortcomings.

When he finished, she actually felt a wave of relief. She understood that in a place as competitive as the institute, standing out too much could be dangerous, even though individual talent was valued. Especially since she and her mentor worked so closely together, she was always wary of people whispering about favoritism or special treatment.

Just because it was a research institute didn’t mean it was some kind of utopia. The world was a giant stage for ambition, and the institute was no exception. Everyone wanted to make a name for themselves.

If she let people speculate however they liked, all the hard work she and her mentor put in would be instantly devalued.

Harper Thompson was clearly up to something. Camila knew she needed to be careful.

With that reassurance, Lavinia finally calmed down. “I’ll wait for your good news, then.”

Once Harper had soothed Lavinia, she returned to the conference room.

As she came in, she saw Camila Davis and Benjamin Torres deep in discussion.

Pushing aside her anxiety, Harper quickly joined them.

The new project was far more challenging than the last. Camila and Benjamin were locked in a debate about the proportions in their formula separation, each defending their own approach.

They went back and forth for quite a while before Benjamin finally relented, saying, “Look, we could argue about this all day, but it won’t get us anywhere. Let’s just test it and see what works.”
