Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 755

Dennis Williams lowered his gaze, a tight ache twisting in his chest.

He understood the injustice she felt—one that needed no defense.

So, when he drew her gently into his arms, his voice was soft and reassuring. “I believe you. I know you, Camila. You’ve always paid attention to every little detail.”

She worked late nearly every night.

Sometimes, even when they were deep in conversation, she would suddenly pause, lost in thought, replaying some issue from her workday—then carefully jot it down in her notebook, not missing a single point.

How could someone so meticulous possibly make a careless mistake, let alone record data incorrectly?

“Don’t worry,” Dennis continued, “this will all be sorted out soon.”

The moment he heard the news, he’d already arranged for people to assist with the investigation.

People on the outside didn’t know the whole story.

In fact, the institute’s entire operating system had been developed by NextGen Technologies—Dennis’s company. NextGen was responsible for its ongoing maintenance.

No data could be taken out before printing; everything had to be processed internally.

There would be traces left behind—there always were.

Tracing and restoring those records would take the tech team some time, but Dennis didn’t hide any of this from her. He got her into the car and explained everything as they drove.

Camila was momentarily stunned.

She’d had no idea the research institute’s system belonged to NextGen. But with that knowledge, some of the tension in her chest finally eased.

Just as Dennis had said, any data tampering would have to be done within the internal system. She had no idea how Harper Thompson could have pulled it off right under her and Benjamin Torres’s noses, but one thing was certain: any wrongdoing would leave a mark somewhere.

Her mind began to race, analyzing the timeline.

From the moment she handed the documents over to Benjamin Torres until the files were printed, she’d only been out of the loop for maybe half an hour.

That short window—no more than thirty minutes.

Dennis shook his head. “Not at all.”

The moment he heard what was happening, he’d left his work behind without a second thought.

He looked at her earnestly. “I’ve told you before—nothing is more important to me than you.”

Camila blinked, a sweet warmth blooming in her heart.

She nestled closer, resting her head on his shoulder, a gentle smile on her lips.

She really was lucky to have him.

Before, no matter what happened, she’d always had to face it on her own. There was never anyone to lean on, no one to share the burden.

But now, with Dennis by her side, she felt truly protected.

Whatever came her way, she knew she wouldn’t have to face it alone—he was always there, quietly sorting it out before she even had to ask.
