Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 758

Yet beneath that pride, there was also a glimmer of heartache.

The old Dennis Williams… he really hadn’t had it easy.

Audrey Williams clearly noticed the shift in Camila’s mood. Realizing she’d said too much, she quickly changed the subject, steering their conversation elsewhere.

Later on, after they’d chatted and finished lunch, Audrey turned to Camila with a smile. “Let’s not stay cooped up in the office all day. Come on, I’ll give you a tour!”

“Sure!” Camila replied, genuinely interested. After all, this was his territory.

Audrey, brimming with energy, led her outside. As they walked, she introduced each place they passed—the different floors, departments, and their uses throughout the Smith Group headquarters.

Along the way, Camila drew quite a few curious glances.

Down at the main reception, the front desk associate was quietly calling Cynthia Lee. Keeping her voice low, as if afraid of being overheard, she said, “Ms. Lee, you asked me to keep an eye on the CEO. He brought a woman to the Smith Group today. Everyone’s saying she’s his girlfriend…”

Cynthia’s expression darkened instantly.

Ever since Dennis started bringing that brat around the Smith Group, she’d worried he might one day bring Camila Davis too. If that happened, it would be as good as announcing Camila’s status to everyone.

Every day, Cynthia simmered with jealousy and anxiety. So, she’d seized the opportunity to quietly bribe the NextGen Technologies front desk, instructing them to keep her informed.

And now, just as she’d feared, it had happened.

By bringing Camila in like this, Dennis was all but admitting she was the future lady of NextGen Technologies!

How could he do this? And what had Camila Davis ever done to deserve it?

Cynthia had always maintained a composed, elegant image. But at this moment, she couldn’t control herself—her face twisted with emotion.

No one knew better than her how impenetrable NextGen Technologies was from the inside. Even she, with all her connections, couldn’t get to the upper management; every employee signed strict confidentiality and loyalty agreements before joining. If anyone broke those, they’d be facing a lawsuit in a heartbeat.

So after all her effort, the only person she could bribe was the lowest-ranking receptionist.

She also knew that anyone coming to discuss business with NextGen Technologies had to meet in the designated conference rooms—no outsiders were allowed anywhere else.

On the other end of the call, the executives exchanged puzzled looks. Just a second ago, he’d been grilling them harshly—why the sudden change in demeanor? Was he about to fire someone?

They all grew a little anxious.

Camila, for her part, had no idea so much drama could unfold in just a few seconds. Seeing Dennis was busy, she took a seat quietly on the sofa and fiddled with her phone to pass the time.

Unexpectedly, a message from her parents popped up.

Her mother, Melissa, had texted: “Your dad and I booked our flights for tonight. We’ll be landing in Cabinda this evening.”

Camila sat up in surprise. What a coincidence—she’d just been suspended from work, and now her parents were coming. Had her mentor told them what happened?

Suddenly uneasy at the thought of worrying them, Camila stood up quickly.

Her movement caught Dennis’s attention.

She flashed him a quick gesture, signaling she was stepping out to make a call, then quietly slipped out of the office.
