Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 821

Camila Davis was momentarily stunned by the chaos unfolding before her.

It took her several seconds to snap out of it, then she rushed forward to pull Sarah Brown away.

“Sarah, that’s enough! Come on, let’s go!”

She didn’t care a bit about Jordan Smith getting roughed up—he could handle it, and Camila wouldn’t lose a wink of sleep over him—but what worried her was Sarah’s lack of restraint. If she went too far and Jordan managed to flip the narrative, accusing Sarah of assault, it would all backfire.

From the shadows, Nathan Gates and the security guard hurried over, too. They had been waiting for their boss to finish speaking with Camila, never expecting Sarah to suddenly lash out.

Once they arrived, everyone scrambled to separate the two, finally managing to put an end to the one-sided fight.

Camila wrapped her arms around Sarah, heart still pounding, and shot a wary glance at Jordan Smith.

He looked a little worse for wear, with a vivid red handprint across his cheek and a faint scratch on his jaw, but otherwise, he was intact.

At least she hadn’t ruined his looks. Camila let out a quiet sigh of relief and quickly said, “Sarah had too much to drink—she didn’t mean any harm. I apologize on her behalf.”

Then she turned to Nathan Gates. “If necessary, take him to the hospital for a checkup. I’ll cover the medical bills.”

Nathan hesitated, unsure how to respond. It was obvious Camila wanted to draw a line between herself and his boss, but he doubted Jordan would accept that.

He stayed silent, glancing at Jordan for direction.

Jordan’s expression was thunderous, his eyes dark and unreadable as he stared at Camila. For a fleeting moment, hurt flickered across his face.

This wasn’t the Camila he remembered—not this cold, detached woman.

Once, if he so much as caught a cold or worked a little too hard, she’d worry herself sick over him, fussing at his side and taking care of everything.

But now, those once-gentle eyes showed nothing but distance.

This wasn’t the way things were supposed to be.

There should have been a trace of warmth in her gaze—a trace of him. She loved him, didn’t she? Even after the divorce, she shouldn’t have forgotten him so quickly.

Camila ignored the silent accusation in his eyes. She’d said all there was to say; whether he listened or not was his own business.

Right now, getting Sarah out of there was more important.

Without another word, Camila led Sarah away.

Neither of them noticed the figure lurking at the end of the hallway. Sandra Taylor hid in the shadows, her eyes glinting with venom as she watched Camila’s retreating back.

She’d spent all evening coaxing that lecherous old man to bring her to this restaurant—she’d heard Jordan would be here tonight.

While he was distracted, she’d slipped away, hoping to “accidentally” run into Jordan and plead her case.

Sandra Taylor…was another.

She didn’t miss the hatred burning in Sandra’s eyes. That woman’s resentment toward Camila was at least as fierce as Lavinia Roberts’s—maybe more. Someone she could put to good use.

And then there was Lavinia herself.

All three women hated Camila Davis, each in their own way. Cynthia could turn that hatred to her advantage.

She watched quietly, eyes gleaming with calculation and satisfaction.

Meanwhile, Camila was oblivious to all of it.

She half-dragged Sarah Brown back to the ballroom, only to nearly collide with Aurora Robinson and Dennis Williams by the entrance.

Relief flooded their faces when they saw Camila and Sarah.

“There you are! Where did Sarah run off to? I couldn’t find you guys anywhere, so I went to get help. Is she alright?” Aurora asked, brows knit with worry.

Sarah, barely conscious, slumped against Camila, her eyes closed. She mumbled, “Don’t hold me back! I’m not done with him!”

Camila could only give them a helpless look. Unsure of how to explain, she managed, “She’s fine. When I found her, she was hugging one of the hotel’s decorative trees, talking to it like a person.”
