Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 822

“She actually wanted a tree to give her directions. When the tree didn’t respond, she started throwing a fit…”

Aurora Robinson couldn’t help but burst out laughing. “That definitely sounds like something she’d do.”

Not wanting Camila Davis to do all the heavy lifting, Aurora stepped forward to help her.

Right on cue, Sarah Brown kicked up a fuss again, shouting at the top of her lungs, “I’ll kill you!”

Neither Camila nor Aurora saw it coming—Sarah almost knocked them both over in her outburst.

Larry Adams, unable to just stand by, hurried over and scooped Sarah up, pinning her gently in his arms. “Hey now, what’s with all this commotion?”

He looked at her, genuinely perplexed. “Seriously, Sarah? Couldn’t get directions from a tree so now you want to fight it?”

Camila let out an exasperated sigh and explained, “It’s not that. She actually hit someone.”

“What?” Larry’s eyes widened, and he swallowed nervously. “Who did she hit?”

Everyone at tonight’s gala was someone important, and Larry was beginning to worry about who Sarah might have offended in the brief chaos.

Aurora, her voice anxious, asked, “Was anyone hurt? Is it serious?”

Camila’s expression was calm as she shook her head. “It shouldn’t be a big deal. With her strength, I doubt she did any real damage.”

Relieved, everyone let out a collective sigh. “That’s good to hear.”

Aurora was still shaken. She quickly said to the group, “Let’s just take her home before things get out of hand again. Larry, help me, would you?”

“Of course,” Larry agreed without hesitation.

The group made their way downstairs together.

The driver pulled the car around promptly.

Within minutes, Aurora and Larry were ushering Sarah into the car and driving her away.

That left Camila, Jarvis Peters, and Dennis Williams standing in the now-emptier hall.

Jarvis, never one for awkward third-wheeling, was about to excuse himself when Dennis suddenly spoke up. “Wait a second…”

“What’s up?” Jarvis looked at him, puzzled.

Dennis turned to Camila. “Ms. Brown did hit someone, so technically she’s at fault. To avoid any trouble, it might be best to send someone to check on things. What do you think, Camila?”

Camila paused, glancing at him. His dark eyes were deep, as if he could see right through her.

Did he already know?

She didn’t hesitate for long and nodded. “Alright, let’s do as you suggest.”

Jordan Smith had made it clear tonight he wasn’t going to let things go.

If this wasn’t resolved quickly, he’d probably use it as an excuse to bother her again later…

Just the thought of it irritated Camila to no end.

Besides, Sarah had only gotten physical tonight to stand up for her.

Camila didn’t want her friend to get dragged into her own mess.

He’d seen enough at the gala tonight to know Jordan Smith wasn’t ready to give up on Camila.

But so what?

A man who’d already lost didn’t even deserve a second glance.

Camila was his now.

And no one else had any right to claim what was his.

He trusted her completely.

His gentle tone put Camila at ease, though she couldn’t help but glance at him again.

Seeing that he truly wasn’t upset, she finally relaxed.

Jordan Smith hadn’t managed to create a rift between them, but some of the things he’d said tonight still lingered in Camila’s mind.

He’d claimed that the Collins family wanted Dennis to have children with another woman…

Camila sat quietly, fidgeting with her fingers. The small, anxious gesture didn’t escape Dennis’s notice.

He looked at her, sensing she had more to say. “Is there something else on your mind?”

Camila hesitated for a moment, then nodded. “There’s something I’ve been meaning to ask you, Dennis… Would you ever want to have a child of your own?”

Dennis’s eyebrows shot up in surprise, a subtle current flickering in his deep eyes. “What brings this up?”

Camila wasn’t sure how to explain. She simply replied, “I just… suddenly wanted to know.”
