Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 844

She immediately snapped, “Who is this ill-mannered girl? This has nothing to do with you!”

Sarah was defending her, and Camila wasn’t about to stand for that. “Sarah is just telling the truth,” she said coolly. “And if we’re talking about being ill-mannered, it’s nothing compared to your shameless behavior, Mrs. Smith. You were the one who hurt my mother, so I have no interest in wasting my breath on you. If you have so much energy, let’s talk about compensation instead!”

Camila flipped over the medical report and payment receipts in her hand. “Medical expenses, lost time, and compensation for my mother’s emotional distress. Please pay the full amount.”

“Are you kidding me?” Barbara couldn’t believe Camila would demand money from her at a time like this. It wasn’t that the Smiths couldn’t afford it; she simply refused to pay.

“You pushed me too, didn’t you?” Barbara seethed through gritted teeth. “Why should I be the one to pay?”

Camila ignored her furious expression. “Because you’re standing here perfectly fine, while my mother is lying in a hospital bed.”

Barbara knew she was in the wrong but would never admit it. “How do you know I’m fine? Maybe I have internal injuries from the fall! I demand a full physical examination as well!”

The commotion in the hallway grew so loud that Jerry Davis finally emerged from the hospital room. A man who had been mild-mannered his entire life raised his voice for the first time. “This is a hospital, not a marketplace for you to shout in! Would you please leave immediately?”

Startled, Barbara fell silent.

Jerry shot a cold glance at the Smith family before turning to his daughter. “Camila, make them leave. We don’t need their compensation; we don’t want their money. Your mother is in pain. Let her have some peace and quiet.”

Camila, her heart aching for her mother, nodded immediately. “Okay, I’ll get them to go right now.” She had never really wanted their money; their attitude was just too infuriating.

Jordan knew Jerry was the more reasonable one and seized the opportunity. “Dad, I apologize on behalf of my parents for what happened today. They didn’t mean for it to happen. They just haven’t seen Lillian in a long time and were a little too eager. They never intended to hurt Mom. I’ll make them leave now. I’ll also take full responsibility for Mom’s medical bills and her recovery.”

Just as he finished, Melissa George’s weak voice drifted from the doorway.

“Who are you calling ‘Dad’ and ‘Mom’? Don’t be so familiar, Mr. Smith! My daughter divorced you long ago. She has someone she loves now, so don’t you dare ruin her reputation here!”

Everyone turned to see Melissa standing at the door, her hand pressed against her lower back, her face a grim mask of anger.

“Mom…” Camila rushed to her side, worried she would injure herself further.

But Melissa was surprisingly strong. Caught off guard, Camila nearly lost her balance and was pulled down with her.

It happened so fast that Larry Adams and Sarah Brown were stunned.

“Camila!” they shouted, rushing forward to help.

But they were too late. Someone else was faster.

“Careful!”

A steady voice cut through the chaos, and Dennis Williams’s tall figure appeared before them. With a firm grip, he steadied both mother and daughter.
