Dennis Williams tousled his sister's hair, adding, "I had my assistant order that sports car you liked. It'll take some time to have it shipped over, so you'll have to be patient."
"Wow!" Audrey Williams hadn't expected her brother to remember. She cheered, throwing her arms around him. "You're the best, big brother!"
Dennis watched her unbridled joy with a fond, indulgent smile. He was always generous with his sweet, well-behaved sister.
Not wanting to disturb his work, Audrey happily took the concert tickets and left, her steps light and bouncy.
Once she was gone, silence returned to Dennis's office. He buzzed for his assistant. "Aaron, is Mr. Myers back yet?"
Aaron replied honestly, "Not yet, sir…"
Meanwhile, in a high-end café in Cabinda, Mr. Myers was in the middle of a tense negotiation with Jordan Smith.
His expression was serious, his demeanor impartial. "Mr. Smith, considering the points I've just outlined—your marital infidelity, your initial relinquishment of custody, your neglect in the child's care during the marriage, and your current physical disability—it is our position that you are incapable of independently caring for the child. Therefore, on behalf of Ms. Davis, we are prepared to offer the following arrangement: you will be permitted two supervised visits per month. This is our most generous offer."
Jordan Smith's face was a stony mask, but he remained silent.
There were over a dozen conditions, each one pointed and specific, yet entirely reasonable given the Smith family's past behavior toward Lillian.
Though Jordan initially wanted to object, he found he couldn't refute a single point under the weight of Mr. Myers's evidence. Each accusation was true.
He closed his eyes, a wave of exhaustion washing over him. "Fine," he said, his voice weary. "I accept."
He had always known he'd neglected his daughter, and he'd felt pangs of guilt since regaining his senses. But never before had the reality of Lillian's suffering hit him with such gut-wrenching clarity.
