Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 865

For the first time, Camila reached out and pressed the button to raise the privacy partition in the car before leaning into him. Dennis, who had been sitting back comfortably, was caught off guard as she pressed him against the seat. He raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in his eyes, but didn't stop her. His hand instinctively went to her waist to steady her.

"Hmm?" he murmured, the low, questioning sound sending a shiver down her spine.

How was it possible for one man to be so utterly captivating? Every single thing about him seemed designed to appeal to her.

Overwhelmed by her feelings, she pressed soft, fleeting kisses to his brow, the bridge of his nose, and finally his lips. "Dennis Williams," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion, "I like you so, so much. You brought me to Cabinda, so don't even think about letting me go. I might just cling to you forever. Are you scared?"

The playful threat held no menace. To Dennis, she was like a kitten trying to pin him down with its tiny paws—adorable, but hardly dangerous. It only made his heart soften further.

His gaze darkened, his breathing growing unsteady from her teasing. "What's there to be scared of?" he said again, his voice a low rumble. "That's exactly what I want."

His words emboldened her. Her lips traveled to his jaw, then down to the sharp line of his throat. A new wave of courage washed over her, and she gently licked the bob of his Adam's apple before giving it a playful nip.

"Dennis Williams, since you chose me, you don't get to have any regrets. Good or bad, you have to accept all of me. And if someone better comes along, I won't let you cast me aside for someone new. For the rest of your life, you're destined to be entangled with me."

Dennis, usually so composed, felt his control slipping under her uncharacteristically bold assault. His Adam's apple bobbed, and his voice was hoarse when he spoke. The hand on her waist tightened as he answered with solemn intensity, "In my eyes, Camila, you are the best. No one can compare. You are my one and only choice."

His answer delighted her. With a soft, throaty laugh, her hands began to roam, her fingers tracing teasing patterns over his chest and down to his stomach. "I'm holding you to that," she murmured, her small, pale hand sliding over the thin fabric of his shirt.

The car's heater was on, and he could feel the warmth of her touch through the material. A fiery passion flared in his eyes, tinting the edges red. He leaned down and nipped her earlobe, his other hand capturing hers. "Camila, are you trying to kill me?" he rasped, his voice unrecognizable. "Do you want me? Right here, right now?"

It was like being thrown into a furnace. His palms were scorching, his breath hot against her skin, and she felt as if she might evaporate under his touch. Yet even so, all she wanted was to press closer.

Time melted away. When the garage lights flickered on, all that could be seen through the car window was a dance of shifting, swaying shadows.

When it was finally over, they were both slick with sweat, as if they'd been pulled from water. Camila's strength gave out first. Utterly spent, she could barely move, allowing Dennis to carry her into the house to clean up.

She had expected him to press his advantage, but to her surprise, he was incredibly gentle, carefully washing her before dressing her in a soft pajama set. He was a perfect gentleman, making no further demands on her exhausted body.

Camila looked at him, bewildered. When had this man become so easily satisfied?
