Cynthia had to admit her assistant had a point. The problem was Audrey. She had tried to get close to her, sending gifts and extending invitations, but Audrey had always remained politely distant.
The thought infuriated her. They had known each other since childhood, and Cynthia had always treated her like a little sister, yet it seemed that all those years of friendship meant less than some outsider like Camila. It felt like she had been nurturing an ungrateful snake.
But she couldn't afford to alienate Audrey, not when she was Dennis's beloved sister.
Suppressing her frustration, Cynthia gave her assistant instructions. "Find a way to get this information to Sandra Taylor. In the meantime, I'm going to invite Audrey and Charlotte out for a spa day."
"Right away," the assistant said and left to carry out her tasks.
Cynthia immediately messaged Audrey and her mother, Charlotte, inviting them out the next day. Charlotte politely declined, explaining that she had just gone out with friends and was busy for the next few days. To Cynthia's relief, however, Audrey accepted.
*At least she still respects me enough to say yes,* Cynthia thought. *This time, I have to win her over. I need her on my side.*
The next afternoon, Cynthia greeted Audrey with an effusive hug, linking their arms together. "I'm so glad we could do this! After our spa treatments, we should go shopping. The new jewelry collections are out, and I want to see them with you!"
With her plan in mind, Audrey quickly and happily sent a text to Walter Wilson.
Seeing that her story seemed plausible, Cynthia didn't suspect a thing and took Audrey's hand, launching into her real agenda. "Audrey, we've known each other for over twenty years. You know I've always thought of you as a little sister, right?"
Audrey put her phone away. She was smart enough to hear the underlying meaning in Cynthia's words, but she played along, smiling sweetly. "Of course, Cynthia. And I've always thought of you as a big sister!"
