Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 872

She filled him in on the true purpose of Cynthia's invitation. After hearing everything, Walter's expression was one of pure disdain. "I heard this Ms. Lee is a top graduate. She doesn't seem like it."

The insult was clear: he thought Cynthia was an idiot.

Audrey laughed. "Oh, the degree is real, I can promise you that."

Walter looked skeptical. "Really? Then how did she come up with such a… moronic line of reasoning?"

Audrey tilted her head, considering it. "To be honest, I never really saw it before today. I guess I didn't know her as well as I thought. She's… self-important. She looks down her nose at everyone, as if she's the only perfect, exceptional person in the world and every other woman is an ant beneath her. But it's not that surprising, I suppose. When you've had everything handed to you your entire life, you develop a strange sense of superiority. You start to believe that anything you want should automatically be yours. That's probably what's happened to her."

"Basically, she's an arrogant snob," Walter said bluntly. "She claims to see you as a sister, but she doesn't know the first thing about you. You should stay away from people like that. You might lose brain cells."

His advice made Audrey smile, but she knew he was right. "Mmm, I'll keep my distance," she agreed thoughtfully. "But I can't cut her off completely. We've known each other for a long time, and she was decent to me in the past. Besides, I have to be Dennis and Camila's guardian angel! She came to me to try and turn me against them, who knows what other tricks she might pull behind their backs? I have to keep an eye on her!" By staying on good terms with Cynthia, she reasoned, Cynthia might let something slip, and she could warn her brother and Camila in advance.

She grinned at him. "Why don't you watch me a little more closely, Mr. Wilson? You might find I have other designs on you. Life isn't just about surveillance, you know!"

Walter, who had been perfectly at ease, suddenly felt his mind go blank. A girl telling a grown man she had 'other designs' on him? What could she possibly want from him?

He was about to ask her what she meant when, inconveniently, their food arrived, and the moment was lost.
