Out of respect for their shared childhood, Audrey didn't want to falsely accuse Cynthia Lee. So, she decided to investigate herself by reaching out to her private chat group of close friends. The group was small, composed of women who, like Audrey, were low-key and graceful, unlike many of the other drama-loving heiresses.
Audrey popped into the chat with a cheerful, “Hey, ladies~”
Her message immediately brought the group to life.
“Sweetie, what’s up?”
“Audrey, darling, need something?”
Audrey sent a cute emoji before typing, “There is something I need your help with!”
“Just ask! Don’t be so formal with us.”
“Exactly, we’re sisters. No need for pleasantries.”
“Haha, you’re right…” Audrey smiled. “Then I’ll get straight to it. Can you all use your connections to help me find out something…?”
Since they were all trusted friends, Audrey was direct. She asked them to look into the rumors slandering Camila that had been circulating. Besides the initial gossip from Lavinia Roberts, had Cynthia been fanning the flames behind the scenes?
The friends immediately agreed without asking why. “Don’t worry, leave it to us. We’ll get to the bottom of it!”
“But still, she’s a Lee. Would Cynthia really do something so classless?” one of them wondered.
“I felt bad when Grandpa Williams wanted to pair her with Mr. Williams, but now I just have one thought: she’s not worthy!”
“Right! The current one, Camila, is much better!”
“That time the Roberts girl attacked her for being divorced was so low. If I hadn’t been abroad, I would have given her a piece of my mind!”
Once the floodgates opened, the conversation flowed endlessly. Audrey sent a ‘love you all’ sticker and stepped back, letting them talk.
Camila, of course, knew nothing about this. She was swamped with work at the research institute. These past few days, Lillian had been with Isabella, rehearsing daily for her upcoming performance. Taking advantage of the empty house, Melissa and Jerry had returned to their hometown to finalize their retirement paperwork. They planned to come back at the end of the year to celebrate the holidays with Camila and the others.
Meanwhile, the elder Mr. Williams grew increasingly restless at home. Finally, he couldn't wait any longer and summoned his grandson to ask him face-to-face about the situation with Jordan Smith and the child. It was no wonder he was on edge. Days had passed since he’d learned about the custody issue, and he hadn't heard a single update from his grandson.
