Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 899

The elder Mr. Williams froze for a moment. When he processed the words, he retorted defensively, “Who… Who said I accepted her? Stop talking nonsense!” Even as he said it, he knew it lacked conviction.

He quickly changed the subject to get him out of there. “Alright, that’s all. Go on, get back to your work.” He stood up to leave but paused on his way upstairs as if remembering something. “By the way, I heard things at the Adams family have been chaotic lately. Larry is even fighting with them. Is it because of that woman’s birthday?”

Dennis’s expression turned serious. He nodded. “Larry has been making impressive strides at the Smith Group, and his capabilities have earned him the respect of the executives and shareholders. But as you know, the more he succeeds, the more nervous that woman gets. She can’t stand to see him do well, so she’s started causing trouble again.”

The elder Mr. Williams frowned. “What did she do?”

“She claims she’s been having nightmares and suffering from severe anxiety,” Dennis explained. “She says she dreams of Larry’s mother cursing them. She went to a church to seek peace and was supposedly advised by a spiritual guide. This guide told her that for the Adams family to have peace, they must relocate the grave. If they don’t, it will affect the family’s future fortune. The date she set for the work is, conveniently, her own birthday.”

The elder Mr. Williams’s face flushed with anger. “Are they insane?” he fumed. “The woman is already gone, can’t they let her rest in peace? What kind of charlatan from what broken-down church would say something so shameless?” After his outburst, his face hardened as he realized the truth. “It was that woman who made it all up, wasn’t it?”

Dennis sneered. “A guilty conscience will do that to a person. Besides, Mr. Adams’s health has indeed declined in recent years. With her suggestions, he’s starting to blame it on this.”

“Nonsense!” the elder Mr. Williams spat angrily. “It’s his own fault for fooling around! The shameless old fool!”

Dennis found his grandfather’s rage amusing and tried to calm him. “Don’t be angry. Her methods are despicable, but Larry has a way to deal with it. We’ll just wait for the birthday. They won’t be smug for long. The Adams family… is due for a change.”

Listening to his boss’s praise, Benjamin Torres felt a pang of shame. He knew they had completed the task so fast entirely thanks to Camila and Jarvis. Their teamwork was seamless, and their abilities surpassed his own. Several times, when he was stuck, their guidance had helped him solve the problems. He had learned a great deal from them during this project.

Camila, however, didn’t take all the credit. “It was a team effort,” she said with a smile.

Abner Young knew the truth. Camila and Jarvis’s skills were far beyond their peers. “Of course, the result is due to the team’s hard work,” he praised, “but your leadership and team spirit are also commendable!”

Benjamin listened, agreeing wholeheartedly. He couldn't help but admire Camila's talent, a feeling mixed with a restrained affection. He thought to himself that he needed to redouble his efforts, or he would be left even further behind.
