Camila would eventually be promoted to a more important research lab.
That evening, getting to leave work early for a change, Camila and Jarvis Peters walked out of the research institute together. Jarvis seemed to have an endless supply of energy. While Camila was exhausted, he was still buzzing with excitement. “Want to go see the old Master tonight?” he asked.
Ever since joining the institute, the guy had been finding every possible excuse to visit their mentor, acting more like a devoted disciple than she did.
Camila shook her head. “Master is working late tonight. He’s at a critical point in his project, so we shouldn’t disturb him.”
“Oh, I see. Alright then…” Jarvis’s face fell with disappointment.
Seeing his quick change in mood, Camila laughed. “We can’t see him tonight, but Lillian is performing at the concert tomorrow, and Master will be there. You can see him then.”
At this, Jarvis’s spirits lifted again. “The concert is starting? Do you have tickets? I want to see Lillian perform too!”
“Of course. I’ve already got one for you,” Camila said, sending him an e-ticket, which he happily accepted.
As they were talking, Jarvis suddenly stopped in his tracks, a mischievous glint in his eye. “Oh? Looks like we’ve got a showdown.”
“What?” Camila, confused, followed his gaze and saw two luxury cars parked at the gate.
One was a black Maybach, which she recognized as Dennis Williams’s. He was here to pick her up. The other car also looked familiar; it was the one Jordan Smith had used to pick up Lillian last time.
Camila frowned, puzzled. It wasn't surprising that Dennis knew her schedule, but how did Jordan know? And what was this all about?
She pursed her lips, deciding to ignore him and walk over to Dennis. Jordan, sitting in the back seat, saw her and called out through the window, “Camila.”
