Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 917

Later, she was perched on the edge of the sink, her back unable to straighten. Then in the tub, the water swayed and spilled over the sides, flooding the floor. The wet tiles and the humid air transformed into caresses and passionate entanglement. Their breaths mingled, searing into each other's souls. Their tender affection burned like a wildfire, threatening to melt them into one another, bone and marrow. As before, Camila was carried out of the bathroom. Every ounce of her strength had been drained; she couldn't even lift a finger. She lay weakly in his arms, on the verge of sleep, her face nestled against his chest, full of grievance. Her lips moved in a soft complaint. “I promise I’ll never question you again, okay? Was all that really necessary? I was just worried about you…” “It seems Camila isn’t that tired after all, still has the energy to scold me,” Dennis’s voice was a lazy, sexy drawl. His chest vibrated as he chuckled, his tone becoming firm and dominant. “And no, it’s not okay. If you ever dare say something like that again, I won’t hesitate to unlock a few more new experiences with you.” Annoyed, Camila summoned a burst of energy and bit him on the collarbone. “Hiss—” Dennis drew a sharp breath, his eyes glinting dangerously. “Is Camila asking for more?” That one phrase was enough to make her cower. Her body trembled involuntarily. She cracked open an eye and couldn’t help but retort, “Dennis Williams, I can’t believe you’re this kind of person! I completely misjudged you. That whole cool and aloof act was all a lie!” Dennis accepted the accusation smoothly. “I thought you would have seen through that long ago. I’ve never been that person. At least, not with you. Around you, there’s no restraining myself.” Camila found his shameless, self-assured tone almost laughable. To prevent any further mischief, once she was on the bed, she wrapped herself tightly in the duvet, rolling herself into a cocoon. “I don’t care, I’m going to sleep! I have to work tomorrow, and I refuse to make a mistake because of this. That would be too humiliating!” Dennis lay down beside her and pulled her, cocoon and all, back into his arms, placing a soft kiss on her lips. “I know. Don’t worry, I won’t tease you anymore. I’ll just hold you while you sleep. It’s warmer this way.” Camila let out a small huff but didn’t struggle anymore. She snuggled comfortably into his embrace, feeling his warmth, and soon drifted off to sleep. Dennis followed her into slumber. The next morning, Camila couldn't just get up and go to work. Her head was spinning, her nose was stuffy, and she felt completely drained. She had clearly caught a cold. At the breakfast table, Melissa George noticed her daughter's condition and grew concerned. “What’s wrong? Did you catch a cold? Have you been working too hard lately? Or did you catch a chill coming home last night?” She immediately urged Jerry to go and get some cold medicine. “I’m fine, don’t worry…” Camila rubbed her nose, too embarrassed to admit it was the result of their passionate night, especially their extended time in the water. She could only shoot a resentful glare at Dennis. This was all his fault. Dennis hadn't expected her to get sick. After breakfast, he urged her to stay home and rest instead of going to the institute. But Camila refused. “It’s nothing serious. I’ve taken some medicine, I should feel better soon. The work at the institute can’t be delayed; I already took yesterday off.” To attend Lillian’s first concert performance, Camila had already rushed through a lot of her work. But things were genuinely busy, and she couldn't afford to fall behind today. Her project was at a critical juncture, and if she paused, Jarvis Peters and Benjamin Torres would also have their progress stalled.
