Camila didn't want to hold anyone back or neglect her professional duties. Seeing her so insistent, Dennis couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt. The water last night had been hot, and the heating had been on full blast; he really didn't think she would catch a cold. If he had known, he wouldn't have been so reckless with her. Since she was determined to go to work, Dennis had no choice but to drive her to the research institute himself. On the way, he held her close, letting her lean against him and rest. Camila didn't refuse, closing her eyes and dozing in his arms for a while. When they arrived at the institute, Dennis gently woke her. Camila said her goodbyes and went inside. As she entered the lab, Jarvis Peters and Benjamin Torres also noticed she was ill. “Are you alright? Have you taken any medicine?” they asked with concern. Camila nodded. “It’s nothing major. But when we’re going over the data today, could you two double-check my work?” She wasn't arrogant enough to think she was infallible and worried she might misread something due to a momentary lapse. Jarvis nodded. “Don’t worry, I’ve got your back.” Camila trusted him completely. She quickly pulled herself together and focused on her work. Once she was busy, she seemed to forget her discomfort. The morning flew by in a blur. At noon, Benjamin Torres came to call them for lunch, and only then did Camila’s tense focus relax. The moment she stepped outside, a gust of cold wind hit her. The world suddenly went black, and her body swayed. She nearly lost her footing. “Careful!” At the critical moment, a strong arm steadied her, pulling her into a familiar embrace. She was surrounded by a cool, pleasant scent she knew well. Camila kept her eyes closed, leaning against him as she asked weakly, “What are you doing here?” “I brought some people to do maintenance on the systems and medical equipment,” Dennis replied, his voice laced with worry. “And to check on you.” He hadn't been able to stop worrying about her. Not long after she started work, he had set himself up nearby, handling his own affairs while keeping an eye on the institute. He had also arranged for a nutritious lunch to be delivered for her. Now, seeing her so unwell, he gently touched her forehead. It was a bit warm, but not alarmingly so. “Let me take you to lunch first?” he coaxed gently. Camila shook her head, her voice taking on a pleading, almost childish tone. “I want to sleep. I’ll eat when I wake up.” “Alright.” Dennis indulged her every whim, carrying her to the break room. The moment her head hit the pillow, Camila fell into a deep sleep. Dennis watched her, his heart aching. He didn't leave, staying by her side and placing a cooling patch on her forehead. During this time, Camila’s phone rang several times. Dennis glanced at it and saw it was an unsaved number. Assuming it was unimportant, he ignored it. Then, a text message came through. “Busy? If you have time, let’s have a meal. We need to talk.” Dennis’s brow twitched. He had a strong suspicion about who the sender was, but he still didn't respond. After waiting for a while without a reply, another message arrived. “Camila, you’re always busy with work and don't have much time to spend with Lillian. When you’re free, she should be spending more time with me, her biological father. She is my daughter, and I will take care of her. There’s no need for others to interfere!”
