At first, Camila didn't understand. A few seconds later, both she and Audrey choked on their food. They both knew exactly what the elder Mr. Williams was referring to, and Camila was suddenly at a loss for words.
Audrey, worried her grandfather was about to uncover the truth, quickly jumped in. "Grandpa... why are you asking about this all of a sudden? We're still eating! And didn't Dennis already talk to you about it? Don't overthink things. You just said the younger generation has its own fortunes, and now you're worrying again. Besides, don't you adore Lillian?"
Was her grandfather still hoping for a biological great-grandchild? Was his acceptance of Lillian just a temporary act? Audrey worried the old man was about to ruin her brother's happiness all over again.
The elder Mr. Williams looked at his granddaughter, puzzled. "My affection for Lillian has nothing to do with this question. Can't I be concerned about Dennis?"
He had watched that boy grow up, had doted on him for so many years. To know his grandson had such a condition had caused him countless sleepless nights and ruined his appetite for days. How could he just ignore it? Before, they hadn't found a competent doctor. But now, with Camila's incredible skills and her mentor being a giant in the medical field, a glimmer of hope had sparked within him.
He understood his granddaughter's unspoken concern. He turned to Camila and explained, "Don't misunderstand. Asking about this doesn't mean I won't love Lillian. I'm just... concerned. It's about Dennis's health, so please don't read too much into it."
Audrey looked at Camila nervously, unsure how she should answer.
Camila could see the sincerity in the old man's eyes; he truly didn't seem to be plotting anything. After a moment of careful consideration, she offered a conservative reply.
"Well... I've already developed a treatment plan. With therapy, he should be able to recover. It's just that... the timeline might be... a little long?"
She didn't know exactly what Dennis had told his grandfather, but this vague response probably wouldn't contradict anything.
