Audrey’s meaning was crystal clear: those women had acted so brazenly only to curry favor with Cynthia. The elder Mr. Williams fell silent, his expression surprisingly calm. He didn't seem to find the revelation hard to accept.
Audrey was a bit surprised. Her grandfather had always treated Cynthia like one of his own grandchildren and had held her in high regard. Why was he so composed now?
Then it dawned on her. “You suspected it all along, didn’t you, Grandfather? You were just looking at her through rose-tinted glasses, as if she were your own granddaughter. You probably thought that what she did wasn't a big deal—just some nasty words, nothing truly harmful—since it was all for my brother's sake. But now that the situation has changed, you can see her actions for what they really are: malicious and dishonorable. Spreading lies and twisting the truth… for the daughter of a prominent family, her methods are quite distasteful. Let the past be the past, but from now on, you need to see her for who she truly is!”
Her words were a clear warning to her grandfather. Camila was family now, and he couldn't continue to protect an outsider. If he did, Camila would be hurt, and society would follow his lead, continuing to support Cynthia and target Camila.
The elder Mr. Williams understood this perfectly. He was simply lamenting how things had turned out. He sighed. “I understand. From now on, I’ll look at matters concerning Nancy more objectively.”
“Good!” Audrey said, relieved. By then, they had reached the car. Jordan Smith had already left. Camila stopped and prepared to say goodbye to the elder Mr. Williams and Audrey.
“Not so fast,” the elder Mr. Williams said quickly, as if afraid she’d vanish. “I bought some toys for Lillian. Wait here a moment while I have them brought over.” He turned and instructed his bodyguards to bring the gifts.
Camila wasn't surprised by his gesture; she could see how much he adored Lillian. She smiled. “You’re too generous.”
