Mr. Adams was speechless. He couldn't believe his own grandson was capable of such a thing.
The police officer didn't wait to be asked. He stepped forward and confirmed, “What Mr. Williams said is absolutely true. Two nights ago, after finishing his work at the Smith Group, Larry Adams received a call from the caretaker at the suburban cemetery, informing him that his mother's grave had been dug up and her ashes were missing. When Mr. Adams arrived, he was ambushed. Upon receiving the report, our team went to the site to collect evidence. We found signs of a struggle and bloodstains on the headstone.
“We followed the trail and found him being held in an abandoned house in a small town on the outskirts of the city, guarded by several men. He had sustained multiple injuries. When we found him, he was clutching his mother’s urn.
“Over the past day, we have apprehended dozens of individuals involved in the kidnapping. Twenty of them were directly involved in Mr. Adams’s abduction. The others were tasked with ambushing Mr. Williams to prevent him from searching. All of them are now in custody.
“Through interrogation, we have extracted key leads, all of which point directly to the Adams family. Additionally, we have video evidence of the murder committed by Mrs. Adams all those years ago. Therefore, we are here tonight with warrants for their arrest. The three of you need to come with us.”
Each word from the officer struck Mr. Adams like a hammer blow, echoing in the ears of every guest.
So that was the truth of it.
“Larry Adams was really kidnapped?”
“It has to be true, right? The police said so themselves. They wouldn't lie for him.”
“I think it’s real. They brought arrest warrants.”
