In Mr. Adams’s mind, Larry was the sole architect of his family's humiliation. If he hadn't shown up, the Adams family wouldn't have become the laughingstock of Cabinda, and his son and grandson wouldn't be in police custody. He unleashed all his fury on Larry.
The disgusting display was too much for the elder Mr. Williams to bear. He stepped forward and roared, “What, your family can commit murder, but Larry isn't allowed to expose you? The woman you killed was his mother! For years, you’ve kept everyone in the dark. A family rots from the head down, and your corrupt leadership is what bred those vile creatures who thought their status gave them the right to do whatever they pleased! And now, instead of reflecting on your actions, you have the audacity to ask if he’s satisfied?
“You don’t have to ask him; I’ll answer for him! Yes, he is satisfied! Very satisfied! The Adams family brought this upon themselves!”
Already enraged, Mr. Adams lost all reason. “Who gave you the right to speak? I haven’t even settled the score with you people! Our families have always been on good terms. There were gentler ways to handle this. Why did you have to do it publicly, in front of all our guests?”
The elder Mr. Williams was incensed by the man’s attempt to shift blame. “You did the crime, and now you expect me to protect your reputation? If you had any sense of shame, you would have never covered for that degenerate son of yours, letting him bring home that shameless woman and her bastard son, and allowing them to bully Larry for years!
“And on good terms with the Adams family? Are you senile? Who do you think is on good terms with you? Do you really believe the Williams family bothers with you because of your status? Hah! If it weren’t for Larry, none of us would give you the time of day!”
The old man’s tirade was breathtaking. He delivered the verbal assault without even pausing for breath, leaving Camila and the others stunned and the remaining Adams family members speechless.
