Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 984

She couldn't see any injuries on him, but the exhaustion etched between his brows didn't escape her notice. Her heart ached for him, and she gently reached up to massage the tense spot. “Are you exhausted?” she asked softly.

Dennis let her soothe him, not bothering to hide his fatigue. “I am a bit tired,” he admitted. The Adams family had been dead set on keeping Larry away, guarding him so fiercely that if it weren’t for Christian Stewart’s last-minute cooperation, Dennis would have had to re-scout all possible routes, delaying the rescue even further. Even so, the effort had been draining.

“After I spoke with you last night,” he explained, “I had to figure out how to get the police in there to collect evidence and question the family about their involvement. Then I had to trace the origins of the men they hired… every piece had to connect perfectly to build the solid case we have today.”

Just imagining the complexity of it all made Camila’s heart ache for him even more. “Let’s go back to Eagle’s Peak Estate tonight,” she urged. “A soak in the hot springs will help you relax, and then you can get a good night’s sleep. We can deal with everything else tomorrow.”

“Alright,” Dennis agreed, instructing the driver to head for the estate.

Meanwhile, Sarah drove Larry back to his home. “We’re here,” she said, nudging him from his reverie. The car had stopped, and Larry, who had been staring blankly out the window, slowly returned to the present. He was still clutching his mother's urn and memorial plaque.

“Thank you,” he said, preparing to get out.
