Camila nodded thoughtfully. “That may be true, but the Adams family is still one of the top ten families in Cabinda. The shareholders and other clan members won’t take this lightly. By doing this, Larry has essentially declared war on them. They’re going to blame him for all of this, aren’t they?”
Dennis didn’t deny it, but his expression remained calm. “That’s true, but Larry isn’t without options. I was the one who suggested he take this route. It serves another purpose.”
Camila tilted her head. “What purpose?”
A cool, calculating smile touched Dennis’s lips. “Bringing down the entire Adams family isn’t something that can be done overnight. This is just a preliminary strike, a way to give them a taste of what’s to come and to let Larry vent his anger. My real goal is to make the Adams family hand over the inheritance rights willingly. In the future, Larry will be the one in charge. The very people who mocked and humiliated him will have to bow their heads to him. Only then might he get a fraction of the justice he deserves, don’t you think?”
Camila leaned closer, resting her chin on his shoulder with a soft laugh. “That sounds more like you. Always thinking ten steps ahead.” She admired his strategic mind, but a playful thought occurred to her. “You know, you’re almost too good to Larry Adams. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think there was something going on between you two.”
Dennis seemed to read her mind. He gently flicked her forehead. “What nonsense is going through that head of yours? I just see Larry as family. He’s followed me around since we were kids, looking up to me like an older brother. Audrey is my only sister, and Larry is the only brother I’ve ever had. And no one messes with my family.”
“I know, I was just kidding,” Camila said with a wink. She knew that beneath his cold exterior, Dennis was fiercely protective of those he loved. It was one of the things she adored about him.
With that settled, she stopped worrying about them. After breakfast, Dennis drove her to the research institute.
…
Meanwhile, the man at the center of the storm, Larry Adams, was still sound asleep. He had arranged for the news to be released in the early hours of the morning so it would gain traction by sunrise, but he had no idea just how explosive the fallout had become.
