Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 993

Larry Adams watched the online buzz with a calm expression, completely unsurprised. For now, aside from cooperating with the police, he had no intention of contacting the Adams family. Despite the frequent, frantic calls from old Mr. Adams, Larry knew them well enough to doubt they were calling to apologize or admit any wrongdoing. Given their nature, it was far more likely they were calling to condemn him. At the thought, Larry let out a disdainful scoff. He swiped his finger across the screen, blocking all their numbers and contacts, then got up to wash. When he came downstairs, an assistant had already delivered a new set of clothes for Sarah Brown—it was her usual style, and the size was a perfect fit. After changing, Sarah asked him, a little puzzled, "The assistant who brought the clothes today looked unfamiliar. What happened to your old one?" She was used to seeing Christian Stewart handling everything for Larry, from driving him around to delivering documents. The sudden change felt strange. "He’s gone," Larry said nonchalantly, explaining how Christian had betrayed him. He hadn't had time to arrange for a new assistant, so Dennis had sent this one over to help. Sarah was shocked and furious to learn that his disappearance was the result of his own assistant's betrayal. "I can't believe I never saw it before. That Christian Stewart is a real snake in the grass! After you trusted him so much and treated him so well... Ugh, it just goes to show he's cut from the same cloth as the rest of the Adams family—a bunch of scheming backstabbers! Getting rid of him was the best thing you could do. Honestly, he got off easy not ending up in a cell with them!" After her rant, Sarah felt an even deeper pang of sympathy for what he had been through. The new assistant, Noa, who had previously worked at NextGen Technologies, was known for his exceptional efficiency. He was now reporting to Larry. "Mr. Williams has already selected a venue for the funeral and outlined the arrangements. He asked you to review them whenever you're ready so we can proceed." Larry was a bit surprised. "So soon?" Noa nodded. "Yes. Mr. Williams said you should focus on resting after your ordeal and not worry about the details. From now on, I'll be handling these matters for you. As for the police station, the lawyer will go directly." A wave of warmth washed over Larry. "Alright, I'll look it over later and get back to you." Noa nodded and quickly took his leave, not wanting to intrude. After Larry and Sarah had breakfast together, she prepared to head to the Smith Group. Before leaving, she looked at him, concerned. "Are you going to be okay here by yourself?" Larry smiled. "Why wouldn't I be? Go on to work. Don't worry about me." He urged her to go, but she couldn't shake the feeling that he was still hurting, especially with his mother's reburial coming up. What if he was left alone and his thoughts took a dark turn? After a moment's hesitation, she asked, "Why don't you come with me to the Smith Group? We can have lunch and dinner together." Larry raised an eyebrow. The truth was, after last night, the worst of his emotional turmoil had subsided. He felt ready to face anything; he wasn't that fragile. "No, really, I'm fine." "Oh, stop being so stubborn," Sarah insisted, not one for subtlety. "Do you have any idea how rarely I invite people to my office?" She couldn't bear to leave him alone, so she practically pushed him out the door. "Come on! If I'm late and they dock my bonus, I'm blaming you!"
