“Three thunderclaps.” Jonathan stood atop a mountain ridge, watching a blown-up clip that had been circulating online-a video of Agares fighting a massive brown bear. His tone was calm and measured. “The one who killed that bear wasn’t His Highness. Looks like he’s found himself some competition this time. And not just one rival. Several. All of them strong.”

Aslan stood beside him, studying the same video. It clearly showed Agares in combat with the bear, with Sylvara’s voice narrating in the background.

He couldn’t fathom how Jonathan had figured out that the man wasn’t Agares at all.

“How can you tell it wasn’t His Highness who killed the bear?” Aslan asked, unable to hold back his curiosity. “And what makes you so sure he’s facing more than one opponent?”

Jonathan arched an eyebrow, his violet eyes gleaming with dry amusement. “Aslan, your eyesight at night is just as terrible as it is during the day. There were three lightning strikes-one blue, two white. The white belonged to His Highness. The blue was someone else’s.

“The timing says it all. The first strike came alone. The last two landed almost together. That means the blue one wasn’t attacking Agares. If anything, they might’ve been fighting a shared enemy.

“And the reason I know the bear’s killer wasn’t His Highness,” Jonathan added, his tone smooth and mocking, “it’s because His Highness was raised with one royal truth: the royal family values appearances.”

Aslan blinked at him.

The royal family values appearances?

He couldn’t make sense of it. What did that even have to do with killing a bear?

He still couldn’t see how “the royal family cares about appearances” had anything to do with Agares.

Aslan cleared his throat, trying to hold back his confusion. “What’s the connection between that and Agares not being the one who killed the bear?”

Jonathan’s lips curved into a knowing smile. “Tell me, Aslan, have you ever seen His Majesty bare anything below the neck?”

Aslan froze.

What kind of question was that? What did that have to do with anything?

And how did Agares tie into it?

He tried to piece it together but got nowhere.

A soft chime cut through the silence,

Jonathan’s optical computer lit up.

He glanced at it, then slowly turned to Aslan with a smile that made the air feel heavier.

The chill running down Aslan’s spine was instant. “Are you feeling alright?”

Jonathan’s expression didn’t change. “I’m fine. My hunch was right. His Highness just ran into the Swarmborn crown prince.”

“Rheys?” Aslan’s voice cracked. “The Swarmborn crown prince Rheys? The one who almost killed His Highness six years ago?”

Jonathan nodded once. “Yes. Rheys crossed the Kolar planetary line. He’s here. Agares already fought him and is chasing him as we speak.”

Aslan’s face drained of color. His pulse quickened. “Should we cancel the military training?”

Jonathan’s faint smile hardened into something cold and sharp. “Cancel it? Why would we cancel it? Fighting off alien invaders isn’t just Agares’ job or the Hunting Legion’s. It’s the duty of the entire Empire.

“Cadets are future soldiers. The empire pours resources into their training grounds and gives them real weapons for combat. That’s not so they can turn into cowards the moment danger shows up.”

He paused, his tone steady but fierce. “Aslan, military training is war Anything can happen on a battlefield. Facing the Swarmborn early will only make them stronger. Do you understand?”

Aslan straightened his back. “Understood.”

Jonathan lowered his gaze, pressing a hand to the comm at his ear. His voice carried authority, calm but unyielding. “Attention, all units. The Swarmborn crown prince has infiltrated the training zone. The current cro

prince is added to the list.
