Vanessa POV
I wasn’t sure if that was even an option this evening, given everything that had happened. He was due to come home any day, and the nursery still needed attention. I wondered what it looked like now after the remodel, since I hadn’t been in there since returning from the hospital. Part of me didnt want to go in without a baby to bring home.
It had been overwhelming since the explosion, nearly losing Junior, and then almost losing him again in the hospital. I went to the closet and chose a blue lounge outfit because it was warm and comfortable enough to sleep in if I dozed off. I considered wearing the new nightgown Alfred had given me, but it was in the laundry, so I’ll ask Alfred to get me more. Next, I went to the shower and turned the water as hot as I could tolerate. When I got in, the water stung my back at first, so I adjusted the temperature. The strong, warm water felt like tiny fingers massaging my back and head, soothing my tension. I removed the shower head from its hanger to massage my legs, then shaved my legs and washed my hair. After finishing, I wrapped a towel around myself and returned to the bedroom to get dressed. Sitting at the vanity Alfred had bought for me, I applied the vanilla lotion he had given me all over my body.
I felt like a new person after putting on lotion. Though sore, I felt good. In the morning, my body would ache–but it was part of the training and the process of using new muscles. I did not look forward to that, but it was expected. I got dressed and went to the kitchen. Alfred was at the table with spaghetti, salad, and water. I sat across from him and smiled weakly, feeling bad for how I.treated him earlier–though I still felt Stacey needed a break. I was also exhausted from today’s workout.
Little one, how was your day?”
I had been so lost in thought about my day that I barely noticed Alfred sitting across from me. When he spoke, I was startled and jumped in my seat.
Are you OK, little one?”
Yes, babe, I was just thinking.”
What about?”
I wondered whether to tell him I thought I was hard on him earlier. I questioned if he could sense my thoughts or if he was deliberately giving me privacy. His next words eased my mind, breaking the silence.
Little one, I can read your thoughts even when you try to block me.”
I give you your privacy with your thoughts if I feel they are not dangerous thoughts or if they are not going to put anyone in danger.”
That was a relief. I never wanted to block him from noticing my thoughts. Sometimes emotions run high, and reason slips away. Our emotions primarily govern us, which I believe makes life more interesting for men. However, this is just my opinion, not a fact.
*Thank you, I appreciate it.”
Alfred, I want to apologize to you for screaming at you earlier.
Little one, say no more.”
He then walked over to my side of the table. He got down on one knee, gently took my hands in his, and kissed them.
‘I’m sorry for reacting the way I did.”
You are right, I need to remember I have she–wolves in my army.”
He then kissed me on the lips before getting up. He walked to the cabinets, took out two big plates and two small plates, and grabbed a couple of glasses. Then he opened the fridge, got a soda, a bottle of wine, and two bottles of water, and returned to the table. Alfred began to serve our dinner. I wondered where Mac was since he usually served dinner and managed other tasks. The spaghetti looked amazing, and I realized how hungry I was. Alfred made me a salad, poured our drinks, and we ate together in comfortable silence. Once we were done, I asked a question.
Where is Mac?”

Chapter 133
He found his mate.”
After all these years, he finally found his mate. I thought Mac already had one.
What do you mean he found his mate?”
They had issues with their marriage, so they took some time apart.”
“They are having dinner and trying to make up.”
That sounded reasonable. I hoped Alfred and I could always work things out before ever considering breaking our mate bond. We may snap at each other, but we’re going strong and ready for anything. After dinner, I wanted to soak in the hot tub.
Babe, will you come with me and soak in the hot tub with me?”
Yes, little one.”
We went to change into our swimsuits, then walked to the gym, which was not far from the house. As we walked, I decided to ask Alfred about Junior.
Have you heard anything about our baby today?”
“Yes, he is fine.”
We will go see him in the morning.”
I was disappointed not to go this evening, but it was already late. Still, I was relieved Junior was doing well. The nursery needed work, and the nannies would arrive in the morning. I have never had a nanny, so I’m not sure what to expect from them besides caring for the baby.
* Alfred, I know this is going to seem like a dumb question, but why do we need a nanny to take care of the baby?”
He explained that the nannies tend to the baby, help with cleaning, and assist as needed. As Luna, I have responsibilities that do not allow me to take Junior everywhere. That saddened me, but I was determined to spend as much time with him as possible when not training or fulfilling my duties. The training I was about to undergo was going to be challenging; however, I was determined to complete it. My mother never trained me or my sisters to be luna’s for any alphas. She was too busy paying attention to my father. They wanted to marry us to the one person who would pay the most. I knew that Alfred and I would have more children, and when we had a girl, I was determined to raise her completely differently from how I was raised. I knew by watching Stacey that she was raised to fight and be a Luna someday.
Although she did not seem to be in a hurry to find her mate, Alfred was not pushing the issue, nor was her father. They seemed content with her life. She seemed happy as well. We got to the gym. It was only the two of us. The hot tub seemed hotter because it was only the two of us. Alfred went into the locker room and got some towels and a couple of bottles of water. We climbed into the hot tub. He sat down first, and then I was going to sit by him; however, he pulled me down on his lap.
Little one, we have a big bath in the back of the house that we could have soaked in.”
That was true. I had honestly forgotten about that. It was a giant hot tub,
