Chapter 48
Chapter 48
Skylar
When I wake up, I find myself in a strange place. I’m still trapped that much I know but I remember falling asleep on the bed in this room so why is my back against something hard? I look around and try to move but find that I can’t. It’s then that I see that I’m tied to a long table.
Panic sets in and I struggle with the ties. What’s going on? What is that crazy Dahlia doing to me now? I won’t give in! She’ll never be my Mom! “Oh, good! You’re awake!” I snap my head to where her voice comes from and I tense.
Dahlia is sitting on the bed I fell asleep in the lap of a man. Her eyes are glassy and her face flushes like she has a fever. What makes me feel afraid though is the man.
With his long red hair like wet blood and dark red eyes, I just know he’s trouble. Everything about him just makes me want to shy away and hide. His lips twist into a cruel smile and my heart pounds in my chest.
“Magnus, love, this is the boy! My son who has been so brainwashed by my stank of a sister!” Dahlia says and leans into him. “Poor thing… I just want him to know who I am and love me… but he’s so far gone already.”
Magnus chuckles softly and rubs her back. As they kiss and make too much noise, I cringe. Now is not the time to be grossed out by adults though. “Don’t worry, little flower… you are such a treat for me so I’ll be more than willing to help.”
As Magnus rubs his rub over her neck, I see a glowing mark over a scar. The designs make me remember one of Dad’s lessons on the many enemies and creatures to look out for.

“Vampires and werewolves are natural enemies. We don’t get into too many fights nowadays but back in history we’ve gone through many wars. However, we have also come together against stronger foes.” Dad explained. “It’s best to know our past so we don’t repeat mistakes.
Lessons like this normally made me bored out of my mind but this one interested me. Having other beings besides us and boring humans sounded so cool!
“Are there any other creatures we need to look out for besides vampires and rouge wolves?” I had asked curiously. Dad paused and looked thoughtful for a moment.
“Yes, there are. Warlocks and witches cause serious problems if you anger them of course. Sometimes they don’t need an excuse to cause harm.” Dad pondered a bit more. “Demons are also a real threat. They get mixed with warlocks and witches all the time as well.”
“What can they do?” I asked excitedly. “Are they shift too? Super fast and strong?” I wanted to know so much about the world.
“They can use magic to get what they want,” Dad told me. “They can control you using magic and even curse you. The most dangerous are demons that can use manipulation magic. Even more so are those that attract people to them to use them as a ‘feast.”
This confused me back then. “Feast? What does that mean? You can’t eat people!” Dad made a face and ran a hand through my hair. “Is it nasty adult stuff again?”
Dad chuckled at my question. “Yes, you can say that. There’s a term for those types of demons: incubus and succubus. If they can use magic then you’re up against a tough foe. But if you have your mate then you won’t be attracted like… a moth to light.”
“Ooh…” I nodded happily. “I hope I never run into one of those! But I have my mate already! Ebony is going to be my Luna.” I said firmly making Dad laugh and me puff out my cheeks.
“I hope you never do either, pup.” Dad ruffled my hair and smiled. “If you ever have any other questions, never hesitate to

ask.”
“Ok!” I said and stood up before blinking. “Oh! What do they look like? The bad magic demons!” How else could I know what to look for?
“It’s hard to know because they can look so different with inhumane features but they can also just blend into the crowd.” Dad pulled out a book and flipped it open. “You can always look for their marks. They work like a mate mark but it’s used to control that person.”
Dad showed me a picture and I beamed happily. How cool! While I never wanted to meet one, learning about them was so much fun!

Who knew such a random less with excited questions would lead me to know what Magnus was? Dahlia looks like she’s taken something she shouldn’t… or like she’s under some magic spell!
I struggle with my ties again. “Let me go!” I snap and glare at them. “What’s the big idea? Nothing is going to change!” I try to act tough but I feel like I’m trembling like a leaf.
Dahlia giggles softly. “Don’t worry… handsome Magnus here will fix you up to problem…” Her eyes seem to glow and I shudder. This isn’t good at all!
Magnus sets Dahlia on the bed and stands up straightening his shirt. “Let’s get started, shall we? After this, I’ll need to ‘feed’ some more.” Dahlia turns red and giggles while he approaches me.

I pale and squirm more. “N-no! Get away from me!” I stammer and flinch as he places a hand on my forehead. I see dark shadows appearing around his hand. “S-stop!”
