As I lead Samuel to a private space to talk, I hear my heart pounding in my ears. From the moment I met him, he owned my heart and soul. He was then and will forever be my hero. He had no idea what he did for me that day.

Hazel’s Past and Rescue

After a rogue group came in and took over my old pack, life was hell for everyone involved. Our parents were executed in front of us to break our spirits. Our alpha’s pelt was worn by the smug and arrogant rogue leader, Trent. The young boys and girls were separated as we had different roles to be ‘trained‘ for.

We girls were practically slaves and were being groomed to be pleasing to the rogue males once we were of age. At least they waited until then… well for the most part. I can still hear Jenna’s screams to this day…

Anyway! Many of us came up with a plan to leave the pack before it got to that point. None of us wanted to be tied down to them especially since they took on multiple chosen mates by force. Trent even had his eyes set on me after he broke Jenna to nothing. And guess what? It worked! Until it didn’t.

We did escape one night and were so happy about it. My heart soared as I was finally free from that hellscape. The sky’s the limit now! Maybe I could join another pack and find happiness! But it was all too easy and maybe we should have realized that.

One by one we were picked off. I could only run faster than the person behind me. I didn’t have time to hate myself for it either. What made matters worse was my birthday was coming fast too: my big eighteenth where I could find my mate.

That night Trent caught me and I learned a sickening truth. “Mate!” He growled before smirking gleefully. How could this man be my mate? My wolf Lottie whimpered in fear not wanting anything to do with him.

Trent had me cornered and looked ready to pounce on me. However, I stayed strong with a burst of courage. “I, Hazel Jones, wolf of Echo Pack, reject you, Trent, as my mate.” His eyes darkened at my words and all my courage faded away as he pinned me to the ground.

“No matter… you’re mine after all,” Trent smirked down at me and ripped my shirt. I knew then I was in big trouble and struggled to get away. He was already naked because he had been in his wolf form chasing me. He was too strong… he was going to ruin me!

As his hands went all over and I felt something hard pressed against my stomach, all I could do was pray for the Moon Goddess to have mercy and scream for help. ‘Please save me! Please stop this monster from taking away the last thing I hold precious!‘ I begged and squeezed my eyes shut.

Then a miracle happened. A russet–colored blur rushed at Trent and yanked him off of me. As the massive wolf stood over me, a loud snarl shook my body. Was this another rogue? Will they hurt me too? I wanted to run but I was frozen in place.

‘Get off my land, rogue scum!‘ The wolf snarled and I realized now he was protecting me. ‘Trespassing and attempting to assault a girl on Crimson Moon territory? You’d best leave before my other pack members get here!‘

Trent picked himself off and glared at the world but I saw him falter a bit. Crimson Moon… the true wolves of the night? How far did we run to get so far from home? “That’s my little mate right there, mutt so you better back off!”

The Crimson Moon wolf tilted his head at him. ‘I heard her reject you and you pounced anyway. Once a rogue b*st*rd, always one it seems.‘ He stayed in front of me hiding me from view.

Suddenly a loud and long howl echoed in the air/Trent paled and took a step back realizing that he was outnumbered. He snarled and turned away, “You better hope I never get my hands on you, you little b*tch… or I’ll make sure you wish for a quick death.” He then shifted back into his dark black wolf form before taking off.

1 let out a shaky breath and held myself tightly. He was gone… I was safe… right? Suddenly I saw wolves bursting out of the woods and my heart stopped. No… please… not more of them! Panic set in quickly and I felt the world closing in on me.

heads. He then gently nudged me and wagged his tail. ‘It’s ok. They’re wolves from my pack. My name is Samuel… can you climb onto my back?

As Samuel lay down on his stomach, I only stared at him. His green eyes were kind and I found myself trusting him without question. I nodded and climbed onto his back. He’s so warm… as he stood up, I felt myself losing all my strength.

How long had I been running? When was the last time I had anything to eat? I found myself not remembering so when I felt my consciousness fading, it all made sense. All I did remember was breathing in Samuel’s comforting scent and enjoying his warmth.

I sit down and watch Samuel now being so brokenhearted and depressed. Seeing him like this breaks my heart too but I still find myself nervous yet excited. I take a deep breath and smile. “I know you’re in a bad situation so… I wanted to offer my help.”
