The operation was set for 10:00 am.
Around 9:30 am, Charlotte was pushed into the operating theater.
As she did not want her children to know that she was ill, she hadn't told them about the surgery. They were still studying abroad. She knew that the operation was very risky and had a very low chance of success.
Therefore, she left a handwritten letter. Whether or not the operation succeeded, it had nothing to do with Natalie.
Natalie would take over all the necessary procedures after the operation.
Natalie was about to get ready for the operation when she turned around and heard Hailey's voice.
"Nellie, where are you going? I heard that you asked Dr. N to operate on Aunt Charlotte. What nonsense! I'd like to see who's bold enough to impersonate her. If Aunt Charlotte's operation fails, you'll have to bear the legal consequences."
"Where I'm going is none of your business. If you're capable enough, then you can get Aunt Charlotte a doctor."
Natalie didn't even bother looking at Hailey as she walked straight to the operating theater.
However, Hailey did not give up. She caught up quickly and demanded in a shrill voice, "What's wrong? Are you feeling guilty? Are you too scared to answer?"
Natalie stopped in her tracks and turned coldly. "Hailey, Aunt Charlotte's about to have an operation. If you keep kicking up a fuss, I won't hesitate to ask security to get you out of here."
Hailey was cowed by the ice-cold look in Charlotte's eyes. She instinctively stepped backward, but soon jutted her chin out again.
Hailey exclaimed scornfully, "Ha! Why are you putting on an act? Do you think that you can gloss this over by finding some random doctor to impersonate Dr. N? I'm going to wait and see how you clean up this mess when the operation fails!"
"Don't bother!" Natalie could not be bothered to waste any more time talking to Hailey, so she turned and left.
…
Natalie slipped into the operating theater through a small door. The moment she entered, she saw her surgical assistant, May Welles, a Catonian.
She and Natalie had always made the best team, and May had been delighted to receive a call from Natalie. She had flown in overnight from abroad to help.
For confidentiality reasons, they were the only two people there.
Natalie changed into scrubs before putting on a mask and a surgical hat. She covered herself up very carefully. Even her dark, clear eyes were hidden behind protective glasses.
She stood in front of the mirror and took a deep breath to collect herself. She had to do her best in the operation.
Once the two of them had been disinfected, they entered the secondary surgical preparation room. Several doctors, who would be observing the operation, were already standing there.
The doctors' eyes lit up when they saw Natalie and May. The woman in front of them was the renowned Dr. N. It was such an honor to finally see her in person.
Natalie said sternly, "Let's prepare for the operation."
Charlotte lay on the ice-cold operating bed, staring at the ceiling. Her fists were clenched tightly out of nervousness.
She felt very anxious. When she heard the sound of footsteps, her heart leaped into her throat. Charlotte knew that she might die on the operating table that day.
However, even if the chance of survival was only ten percent, she had to fight for it.
