Chapter 511: This Better Be Important

Meanwhile, Lola sat leisurely in the study, continuing her review. Thanks to Sybil’s help yesterday and the data she had sent over, Lola felt she was finally close to understanding the full picture of this so-called Secret Society.

The room was quiet until a gentle knock broke through the silence.

Lola slowly lifted her eyes from the documents. The door creaked open, allowing her to spot a familiar shoulder, and her lips curled up instantly.

"My god..." Lola set her pen down and cupped her cheek. "My husband is definitely in a good mood."

Atlas stepped inside, letting out a light, airy chuckle as he approached her. When he reached the desk, he took her hand and guided it to his lips.

"I am, indeed, in a good mood," he murmured, clearly reminded of her dance last night.

A soft smooch echoed against her knuckles, earning a breathy laugh from her. With a gentle tug from him, Lola rose to her feet naturally, like a well-rehearsed move.

Her arms draped over his shoulders, looping around his neck, while he leaned his hip against the edge of the desk — his hands claiming her hips with ease.

"Have you eaten?" he asked with that low, tired drawl, eyes half-lidded as he admired her face.

Lola fluttered her lashes, pretending to think.

"Not yet," she replied, biting her lips flirtatiously. "Have you?"

"About to," he whispered, gaze flickering to her chest before rising again to meet her eyes. "That’s why I’m here."

She burst into a quiet laugh and smacked his chest lightly. "Is there a problem?"

"There is now," he quipped, referring to how she smoothly changed the subject. His hands tightened on her hips, pulling her closer, as if even a millimeter of distance was unacceptable.

"Baby, I need to recover," she narrowed her eyes in playful warning. "Do you know my brain only started functioning minutes ago? It was too busy replaying last night."

"You don’t need to think about it," he countered, his lips brushing her cheek, "when we can do a reenactment."

She smacked his chest again, but her laughter contradicted her half-hearted resistance. His chuckle joined hers — warm, genuine — the kind he reserved only for her.

It was a privilege she would treasure forever.

"But I’m serious." She cleared her throat, looking straight into his eyes. "Is something wrong?"

Atlas paused, thinking. "Not a problem per se," he said. "I have a joint project with the Bellemontes. I mentioned before that I owed them a favor for helping me recover our family’s seat in the council."

Even though he never asked for their help, Atlas considered it a debt. Hendrik Bellemonte’s influence and words held power — whether Atlas liked it or not. Now, he intended to repay that debt by assisting with rescuing Bellemonte soldiers trapped in a lawless land.

"Mhm," Lola hummed, remembering the head of the Bellemonte family’s recent visit to the Order. "You did mention it. So what do they want?"

"Help," he replied simply. "His men are trapped somewhere, and every time he sends people to rescue them, none of them return alive."

That made Lola blink. "Really? But isn’t the Bellemonte a part of the Secret Society?"

She was basically asking: How can soldiers from a founding family fail a mission like this?

"It’s a... complicated land," Atlas explained. "The Bellemontes thrive in the countries under their influence, mostly through the economy. Many developed and rapidly developing countries — they built them up. But that doesn’t necessarily translate to battlefield advantage."

Their soldiers were trained, yes. Skilled, yes.

But operations like this?

Better suited for the Order — or the House of Monreal.

And since Henrik Bellemonte and Marceline Monreal had a strained relationship, naturally, he came to Atlas.
