The Billionaire's Regret: His Secret Wife Turned Medical Genius novel Chapter 107

"Save the act, Gabriel. I don't want to see you," Emily said.

The words stabbed straight into Gabriel's chest. He looked at Emily's pale face, his throat tightening.

"If you don't want to see me…" His voice rasped, rougher than ever. "I'll leave right now."

He paused, and almost without realizing it, let slip that long-forgotten name.

"Mills."

Emily's body stiffened for just a second. Then, she turned away, her silent back giving Gabriel the most final, irrevocable answer.

Gabriel stood rooted for a long time before finally quietly closing the door behind him and walking out of the villa.

...

The black Maybach cut through the night.

The air inside the car was so heavy that it was suffocating.

Gabriel dialed a number. "Same place," he said.

On the other end, Timothy Graham's easy drawl floated through, "Well, well… This is a surprise. The great Mr. Holton actually has time for a drink with me?"

But Gabriel didn't reply and simply hung up.

At Nocturne's top-floor private room, Timothy swirled the amber liquid in his glass, watching the man across from him down shot after shot. "What's this? Lovesick?"

Gabriel's throat bobbed as he swallowed another burning mouthful of alcohol. It only caused the fire in his chest to grow.

He ignored the teasing, but Timothy smacked his lips and leaned in closer. "So, I hit the mark, didn't I? Is this about Dr. Sterling? I've never seen you like this. Come on. What happened?"

Gabriel's dark eyes were bottomless and as cold as a dead sea. "She wants a divorce."

"So, divorce her. You're Gabriel! You're never short on women."

But Timothy had barely finished speaking when he was hit with a glare sharp enough to kill. He immediately raised his hands and said, "Alright, alright. Forget I even said it. You don't want to let her go?"

Gabriel remained silent, but that was answer enough.

Two full days passed whereby Emily neither ate nor drank.

Just then, a shrill ringtone shattered the silence.

It was Arthur calling.

Emily answered the phone with a dull hum.

On the line, Arthur's voice shook with barely contained excitement.

"Emily. Mallory's awake!"

Those three words shattered the haze clouding Emily's world, cutting straight through the darkness. "Really?"

"Yes! Dr. Jamison just checked her. She's out of danger!"

"Got it," Emily replied.
