The Billionaire's Regret: His Secret Wife Turned Medical Genius novel Chapter 114

The study was so quiet, even the soft rustle of turning pages could be heard.

Gabriel opened the book and placed his fingers on the title of the first chapter. It read, "Cater to What She Likes."

The words cut through the fog in his mind like a shaft of light.

It might work.

Gabriel turned to Roman and said, "Find out everything about Emily's routine now. And I mean, everything."

By morning, a neat report sat on Gabriel's desk. He skimmed it until one line stopped him.

Every morning before work, Emily stopped by the café near the hospital entrance for a pour-over hot latté—with no sugar or milk.

That was his opening.

With that, Gabriel closed the file, grabbed his keys, and left.

By 7:30 am, the café outside the municipal hospital already had a line out the door.

Dressed in his tailored black suit, Gabriel stood out among nurses and commuters in hoodies, drawing curious looks he ignored. Instead, he merely watched the barista pull shots and steam milk, counting the orders ahead of his.

Half an hour later, a latté hit the counter. But Gabriel didn't take a sip. Instead, he carried it to the curb and handed it to his driver. "Take this to the cardiothoracic surgery department's nurse station," he said. "Tell them it's for Dr. Sterling."

Meanwhile at the nurse station, Emily had just slipped into her white coat when a nurse arrived, cradling a familiar paper cup. "Your coffee, Dr. Sterling."

The scent was unmistakable.

Emily accepted it with a faint smile. "Who braved that line for me today?"

"No idea," the nurse said, curious as well. "A driver in a suit dropped it off and left."

A driver?

Emily's smile stiffened for a moment as someone came to mind.

For the next few days, the latté arrived like clockwork.

One day, during a shift change, Emily finally caught sight of Gabriel's driver handing the cup to the front desk.

So, it was him.

Instantly, whatever little warmth she'd felt drained away.

What was Gabriel trying to do with all this? Was he trying to make up for the past? Or was he just unwilling to let her go?

Emily walked over to the front desk. The nurse wanted to pass her the cup, but she raised a hand. Her calm gaze settled on the driver as she said, "Please give this to someone else."

Emily gave the machine a quick look and nodded. "We will."

Just as she was about to turn and leave, Gabriel quickly added, "I expedited this machine for your hospital."

But he regretted speaking the second the words left his mouth.

Emily stopped and looked back at him, her eyes colder than before.

So, this was pressure dressed up as generosity. He was using money as a way to remind her who still held the reins. He hadn't changed at all.

"Procurement follows a set process," she evenly said. "Accounting will handle payment as per the contract. You don't need to worry about it.

"You're busy, so I won't take more of your time."

With that, Emily walked into her office and closed the door.

Gabriel stood alone in the corridor, staring blankly at the closed door. For the first time, he felt helpless all the way to his core.

He reached for his pocket but found only the hard edge of his phone.

The book "Thirty-six Ways to Win Your Wife Back" had been left on his desk in his office. He wondered if it had a chapter on how to handle an awkward moment like this.

At the far end of the corridor, Roman watched Gabriel's defeated shoulders and let out a quiet sigh.

His boss still had a long way to go if he wanted to win his wife back.
