A smug smile appeared on Amelia's face when she saw the message.
She looked at the three nurses who were chatting with each other. Then, she walked up to them and said with a gentle and harmless smile, "I'm sorry to bother you. I need to grab a few medical records from Dr. Sterling's office. There are quite a number of documents. Could you please help me?"
The three nurses were surprised and flattered to have been personally spoken to by Gabriel's secretary, so they quickly nodded. One of them was even still holding onto a cup of hot coffee that she had just brewed.
Amelia's gaze stopped at her coffee for a moment, and her smile deepened.
What a coincidence.
…
Emily's temporary office was a small space that had been built using partitions.
At that moment, she was focused on organizing the medical records when someone suddenly opened the door.
Gabriel walked in, leaving an icy air in his wake. When he closed the door behind him, the narrow space suddenly became even more cramped and suffocating.
"Have you deleted the video?" he asked. His voice was indifferent, as if he were just confirming the disposal of an item.
Emily didn't even look up. "Don't worry, Mr. Holton. I'm a woman of my word."
Her aloof attitude made Gabriel feel annoyed for some reason.
What he wanted was not this half-hearted promise from her. Why did she have to face him with this indifference all the time?
Emily put the last copy of the medical records in its rightful place and got up. "If you have nothing else to say, I'm going to make my rounds," she said.
She wanted to walk past Gabriel to leave, but he tightly grabbed her wrist before she could. "I'm not done talking," he said, pulling her back and making her sit on the chair again.
Emily lost her balance and instinctively put her hand on the table to support herself. However, she knocked over a pile of medical record folders as she did so, and the documents scattered all over the floor.
Gabriel leaned in, his towering figure casting a shadow on her. He then put a hand on the table and pressed down on Emily's shoulder with his other as she tried to get up. "Don't test my limits again, Emily," he said.
Gabriel straightened his back.
Emily was stunned as well, but she immediately understood what was going on after she saw the people at the door.
It was Amelia again. Her acting was always so perfect.
Amelia covered her mouth as if she was shocked, and tears started welling up in her eyes. It was as if she were Gabriel's girlfriend who had been cheated on.
"G-Gabe…" Then, as if she suddenly came to a realization, she quickly said, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry… It's my fault that I accidentally knocked over the cup of coffee…"
With tears in her eyes, she looked up at an expressionless Emily. "Dr. Sterling, you can actually lock the door when you and Gabe are talking about work. We won't misunderstand…"
As soon as she said that, the gazes of the three nurses went from shock to disdain. "We-we didn't see anything," a nurse stuttered. She then grabbed her friends and practically fled in a panic.
Gabriel glanced at Amelia—who was on the verge of tears—and ordered in an incredibly icy voice, "Get out."
