Grant wasn't the type to fall head over heels, especially not for someone like Samantha. He thought actresses were easy marks, swayed by trinkets and sweet talk. But Samantha was different – she was hard to get. And that just lit a fire under him. He'd even seen her hugging some guy on the street, with Cordelia right there with them. Apparently, Cordelia knew the guy.
Once Samantha got into the car, she flicked her hair with a casual air, as if to say, "I’ve got a boyfriend now. Why are you still here?"
Grant started the engine and, through the rearview mirror, watched Cordelia and the guy get into her car.
"Your boyfriend?" Grant asked Samantha, keeping his tone light.
"Sort of. I’m chasing him, but he hasn’t fallen for me yet," Samantha replied, clearly indifferent to Grant.
This was new for Grant. Money wasn’t cutting it, and she seemed head-over-heels for some younger guy, even chasing after him. That didn’t sit well with Grant’s ego.
Whether Samantha was playing hard to get or not, Grant couldn’t tell. But it was working; she had him intrigued.
He began to see her differently, even considering the idea of winning her over.
"What do you want for lunch?" Grant asked.
"Whatever," Samantha said, thinking to herself that if he’d been asking about Harold, he would have been more insistent. But Grant didn’t mention Harold at all.
"I could go for anything – crab, seafood, you name it," Samantha added, pretending to be gluttonous to put Grant off.
But she was playing with fire.
"There’s this buffet place that’s pretty good for seafood. Want to try it?" Grant suggested, unfazed.
