The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 722

Emerson stormed out of the office, muttering under his breath, "What's the deal? Discussing business and they don't even let the vice president sit in."

The name August rang a bell for him, but he couldn't quite place it.

August's current deal with Lumos Enterprises was a hefty construction materials export project to Finland. Normally, Ronan wouldn't need to get involved personally; the sales department would handle it. Yet, he spent a long time chatting one-on-one with August, who chuckled multiple times during their conversation. Ronan offered generous discounts, and August clearly appreciated Ronan's demeanor—his cultured manners, sharp mind, and quick wit.

August had a very favorable impression of Ronan, and Ronan knew it.

They wrapped up business matters swiftly, and Ronan handed over the contract details to the sales and legal departments, pushing them to finalize everything quickly.

"Hey August, how about we grab a bite to eat together?" Ronan offered. "You haven’t had a chance to look around since you got back, have you?"

"Not really, just been to..." August paused, stopping himself from saying "Birchwood Prison"—a chapter of his life he preferred to keep private and certainly not his proudest moment.

"The HR Department's set you up with a place to stay."

"Oh, no need for that, Mr. Evans. Really, I just want to wander around by myself. It’s been years since I’ve been back to Millstone," August explained.

"You’re from Millstone originally?"

August gave a slight smile. "Not exactly, but I worked here for a good while. I have a soft spot for this place."

"Is that so? Need company?"
